As Salam Aleykoum
Me: I don't know how my mother chose you. Anyway, get this into your head: you will never be my wife. Our marriage is just a title; otherwise, I don't want you. You women are all the same. You live your life, I'll live mine, and that's it. Play your role as a mother by taking care of Noor; that's why you're here. But don't ever count on my love, because I don't love you and never will. You are and will remain the one who takes care of my family.
His words hurt me, but honestly, what was I expecting from him? He's such an arrogant man, tchrrr. Who told him I love him anyway? On the contrary, I hate him.
Me: Don't even worry about that. I'll know my place.
Him: Good.
Me: Now, the rice you ate, who gave it to you?
No, I haven't forgotten; it annoys me too much. Tchrrr. He eats my rice and talks to me like that.
Him (looking at me as if to say, "Of everything I said, she's focused on the rice"): I'm at home; I do what I want.
Me: Hmm, OK. You don't love me, so don't eat my food.
Him: Did you make it?
Me: Yes.
Him: One thing's for sure, your rice wasn't good at all. I forced myself to eat it because I was hungry.
What a liar! He practically licked the plate and now he's saying this. Pfff. Whatever, I let him go on and went to see Mom. I knocked on her door.
Her: Yes, come in. Ah, my daughter, it's you. Come sit next to me.
I did as she said.
Her: I see you and Ahmed have already met. And things didn't go smoothly.
Me: Exactly, Mom. A few months ago... (I explained to her what had happened between us).
Her: Ah, my son and his anger toward women... It's not his fault, my dear. Everything will be fine, In Shaa Allah, don't worry. Over time, he'll learn to accept and love you. He's just a man with a broken heart, but deep down, he has a very big and good heart. You'll see for yourself. Just be there for him and try to understand him, please. It's not easy, I know, but promise me you'll bring joy back into my son's life. I miss the days when he laughed and enjoyed life. Now, he's become a distant and heartless man.
Me: Mom, I promise to do my best to bring joy back into Ahmed's life. It won't be easy because he has a strong personality. So do I, by the way—I don't always control my mouth. But I'll try.
Her: Thank you so much, my dear. I know you can do it. I have complete faith in you. Know that your mother-in-law will always be here for you. I've seen in you a true woman, very intelligent. That's why I wanted you to be my daughter-in-law. You're a rare diamond. I hope my son realizes soon how lucky he is to have you.
Me: Thank you so much, Mom. In Shaa Allah.
She hugged me. I'm really lucky to have such a sweet mother-in-law.
Me: Well, Mom, it's time for me to go make dinner.
Her: My dear, I told you it's not necessary. We have people for that.
Me: I really don't mind. Plus, I'm not doing anything at the moment. It keeps me busy.
Her: Even if I say no, you won't listen. Do as you wish; you're at home here.
Me: Thank you, Mom. Do you want anything in particular?
Her: No, make whatever you want.
I kissed her and left.
On my way, I ran into Noor, who had just woken up. She came home around noon.
Me: How are you, my baby?
Her: I'm fine, Al Hamdoulilah. And you, Mom?
Me: I'm fine too. Come, I'll give you your snack.
I gave her her snack, and then she went to play with her friends. Ah, kids!
I started making a fish soup with atieké. A few years ago, I stayed with one of my father's brothers in Abidjan during the holidays. That's where I discovered this marvel. I hope they'll enjoy it. I also made tacos I learned to make while working at Rayan. I learned a lot there. For dessert, I made tiramisu.
I finished around 7 p.m. I went up to my room to take a shower. When I entered, I found "him" lying on the bed. I didn't even acknowledge him. I went straight to the shower. Once refreshed, I prayed and then went downstairs to serve dinner.
I called everyone. We were eating peacefully when Ahmed said:
Him: Hmm, Mom, this is really good. Did you change the cook or something? The rice was amazing, and this is perfect too.
Mom: Do you like it?
Him: Yes, I love it.
Mom: Thank your wife then; she's the one who cooked today.
Him: Ah, OK, I see.
And he didn't say anything else. We continued eating in silence. They finished everything, apparently enjoying it. I was delighted.
Mom: My dear, honestly, you're amazing. This was so good! I loved your cooking. It's my first time having fish soup with atieké, and it was delicious. Thank you for this discovery.
Me: You're welcome, Mom. As long as you liked it, that's what matters most.
I hope you enjoyed it 🥰
