Katniss continued to drag the girl through the Seam not caring about the odd glances from the other residents but Évangeline met their gazes and offered small smiles and waves, some of the younger children curiously followed them with their eyes as they speed walked towards Katniss's house. Katniss continued to pull her behind her, "we're not too far away now" they younger girl mumbled to the girl as she curiously glanced back to the older girl to see what her reaction was to walking through the seem. Katniss expected her to turn her nose up and look disappointed and disgusted with the squaller conditions the Everdeen girl was forced to live in, however Évangeline held the exact opposite reaction as she continued to curiously glance around with sad wide eyes.
"Catnip- you really don't have to-" Évangeline started but Katniss cut her off.
"Don't even start with that" the younger snapped back lightly, if she couldn't physically pay Évangeline back she thought this would at least help make her feel like she wasn't getting free hand outs. The walk to the Everdeen house was considerably short because their house was located nearly at the edge of District 12 in the Seam, a few gates down from the Meadow, the fence, and the woods. When Évangeline looked to the girls house it seemed like a squat little place, she let her eyes wander over to a goat that stood outside making the girl smile softly. Katniss had told her two months ago that she got her sister a hurt goat because she knew Prim would be able to help it back to full health and in the end the goat, Prim named Lady, was actually a good investment for the family. Katniss had originally wanted to get her sister something else like cloth for a new dress or a hair brush but she was happy she went for the goat instead, Évangeline on the other hand decided she wanted to get the girl a dress with two pairs of ribbons. The dress was a nice off white color with two light blue ribbons to go in her hair and the other two ribbons were pink and yellow, the pink was for Lady and the yellow one was for Prims cat Buttercup.
"Katniss- you really don't have to bother with this- I can clean it later- you shouldn't waste medical stuff on me when someone else could use it more than I-" Évangeline said as she tried to pull away from Katniss's grip but felt herself falter when she saw someone walking around in the house.
Katniss pulled on the girl to continue dragging her towards her house, "be quiet and let me help you this once" Katniss muttered as she pushed open the front door.
Before Katniss could call out for anyone they noticed her mom and siblings were already in the main part of the house staring at them, "hey Can't miss, what ware you doing back so early?" The boy asked before he glanced over to Évangeline, "and what's Merchant section doing here?" He asked sharply as he got out of his seat.
Évangeline rolled her eyes slightly, "she got hurt and mom can help her clean it" Katniss snapped back at her older brother who held a small smirk and raised his hands in mock surrender.
"Alright" he said as he glanced back to Évangeline, "what are we working with baby sis?" The boy asked as he motioned for the girl to take a seat.
"She cut her hand on the barbwire fence trying to free her shirt, she needs it cleaned and that tetanus thing since the wire was rusted" Katniss explained as she showed her brother and mother her friends hand. Katniss's mother looked back to Prim who nodded and sprung from her seat to start gathering the different things they would need, Évangeline followed the young girl with her eyes until she felt a finger under her chin guiding her head up.
