The streets of the city glistened under the pale glow of streetlights, dampened by an earlier drizzle that left a faint mist in the air. Rosalind leaned against the cool leather seat of the car, her mind spinning as it replayed the night's events. Alexander's controlling presence loomed over her thoughts, but it was Adrian Sterling who kept surfacing—a calculated variable she couldn't yet define.

The car rolled to a stop outside the gates of Bennett Innovations' headquarters. Rosalind stepped out, her heels clicking against the cobblestone path as the sleek glass structure rose above her. The building exuded strength and innovation, a reflection of her father's brilliance. But to her, it was also a symbol of vulnerability—a fortress that had been breached before and could be again if she wasn't careful.

Her father was already waiting in the executive conference room, a steaming cup of coffee beside him and papers spread across the table. He looked up as she entered, his weary face brightening slightly at the sight of her. "Rose, you're here early."

"Couldn't sleep," Rosalind admitted, sliding into the chair beside him. "Thought I'd get a head start."

Richard smiled faintly, but his eyes betrayed the weight he carried. "I know you're taking on a lot. I just hope you know how much I appreciate it."

Rosalind placed a hand on his. "This company is more than a business, Dad. It's our family's legacy. I'll do whatever it takes to protect it."

Her father nodded, his expression softening. "I know you will. But don't lose yourself in the process."

Rosalind's chest tightened, but she pushed the emotion aside. "Let's focus on what we can control," she said, picking up one of the reports. "The sustainability initiative is strong, but we need to refine the projections. The board will push back unless we show them undeniable numbers."

Richard nodded. "You're right. Let's get to work."

They dove into the details, the hours passing in a blur of spreadsheets and strategy discussions. By mid-morning, Rosalind had outlined several key adjustments that would strengthen their pitch. Her mind was sharp, focused, yet a nagging unease lingered in the back of her thoughts.

She knew Alexander wouldn't sit idle. His methods were slow and insidious, but they were always deliberate. Rosalind needed to stay a step ahead, and for that, she needed more information. There were too many variables—too many unknowns.

A knock at the door interrupted her thoughts, and Margaret, her father's assistant, stepped in. "Miss Bennett, there's someone here to see you," she said, her tone professional but tinged with hesitation.

Rosalind frowned. "Who is it?"

"Mr. Carter," Margaret replied, her expression apologetic. "He insisted."

Rosalind's stomach twisted, but she forced a calm smile. "Send him in."

Margaret nodded, stepping aside to let Alexander enter. He walked in with the casual confidence of someone who belonged, his sharp suit impeccable as always. His eyes flicked briefly to Richard before settling on Rosalind.

"Good morning," Alexander said smoothly, his tone light but authoritative. "I hope I'm not interrupting."

Richard rose, extending a polite hand. "Not at all, Alexander. To what do we owe the pleasure?"

Alexander shook his hand, his smile warm yet calculated. "I wanted to discuss some opportunities for collaboration between our companies. I thought it best to speak with you both directly."

Rosalind's jaw tightened imperceptibly, but she maintained her composure. "Of course," she said, gesturing to the seat across from her. "Please, sit."

Alexander settled into the chair, his presence filling the room as he launched into a pitch about streamlining logistics and leveraging Blue Veil's distribution networks. To an outsider, it might have sounded like a generous offer, but Rosalind knew better. This was a power play, a calculated move to tighten his grip on Bennett Innovations.
