"I was sorry to hear about your divorce, Mr. Kartmen. You must be devastated," Freddy says carefully. I lean forward, over the counter, listening intently to the conversation I've instigated.
Mr. Kartmen—the organisation's drug dealer. He manages all drug operations, whether that be selling, buying, or distribution between the higher ups. Since he has nothing to do with assassin work or anything of the like, he's my only chance of getting into that Christmas party undetected.
Mr. Smith wouldn't have wasted his energy telling workers like Mr. Kartmen about me and the bounty on my head, so he won't recognise me whenever we meet.
At least, that's what I'm counting on.
"Oh, yes. The bitch caught me with one of the maids and got all mad about it." Mr. Kartmen scoffs, and if I could see him, I'm sure he'd be rolling his eyes. "Women, right?"
"Tell me about it," Freddy scoffs, probably getting comfortable in a chair adjacent to Mr. Kartmens desk. "My wife left me for the same thing, except it was with her sister."
Mr. Kartmen laughs, intrigued. "I wish my wifes sister would've let me fuck her, but she was also a bitch. It must run in the family!"
Freddy laughs, pretending to be a man Mr. Kartmen can relate to. "You know, if you wanted to find someone who wouldn't leave you no matter what you did, I've got a girl you can call. I tried her out once and she was...well, I just wish I hadn't lost her."
There's silence for a few seconds, and I imagine Freddy sliding my photo across the table slowly, showing Mr. Kartman what to be excited for. With the amount of editing that photo went through to make me look ten times the beauty I am, I'll never do that photo justice.
"Oh? Why'd you lose her?" Mr. Kartmen asks, his chair creaking slowly.
"I'm not rich enough. She's an expensive girl, that one, but she'll do anything you want. You just have to tell her to do something, and she'll do it. And I mean anything," Freddy says, with a suggestive voice, and it makes the air in the kitchen tense around me.
I've promised I wouldn't go so far as to take this asshole to bed after our date, and I won't break it, but to seduce a man you need to shower him in his every fantasy. And for someone who happily works for a place like the organisation, he sure isn't dreaming about ponies and unicorns.
"Just how expensive is she? I'm a wealthy man, Ted, but I'm not one to throw money around." Mr. Kartmen asks, hesitant, but I'm not worried. If Freddy does as I told him to, everything will work out fine.
"Oh, she doesn't just take money, Mr. Kartmen. This girl, she's very interested in the human body, if you get what I mean. I once took her to a live dissection, and she was with me for a week! It was intense." I sigh quietly, hoping Mr. Kartmen will take the bait. Hoping he'll just jump the gun and give me a damn call so we can get this over with.
"You don't say..." He mumbles, his chair creaking. I grit my teeth, wishing he'd hurry up. Ever since I left the organisation, I've become less patient. More anxious and less confident.
I know my plan will work, but it's a lot easier taking someone down when you're on the inside.
"Trust me. You don't want to pass her up," Freddy says, and I imagine him pinching a piece of paper from his pocket and sliding it across Mr. Kartmens desk. "Here's her number. Tell me how it goes!"
Freddy must leave, because the door clacks open and shut, and our call is cut off.
Sighing heavily, I lean back on the counter, exhausted. I slept better than I have in a really long time last night, but it's only made me feel worse. Heavy and slow, and all I want is to hop back in bed and sleep forever.
