Going home with Wang Miao to meet her parents was already pretty surreal, but Gu Lin didn't expect anything more fantastical. The next day, in the middle of the night, Wang Miao called him and said she wanted to start dating him.

Gu Lin hardly hesitated before agreeing, but after hanging up the phone and lying on his bed in the duty room, he couldn't sleep anymore.

He got out of bed and made a packet of instant coffee to quench his thirst.

It wasn't exactly fast; he had seen faster. When he was in grad school, there was a girl in his class who went on a blind date, and both families were present. They got engaged less than a week later, and he even saw her wearing a gold ring at their class reunion.

But then she stopped wearing it. Gu Lin thought it was because it was inconvenient to wear at the hospital. However, a classmate gossiped that she had started going out with a senior student from their program, dumping the guy she was engaged to.

Gu Lin found it amazing how things could work like that.

Clearly, people who are pressured into blind dates are all dreaming of getting married soon. Even a shy woman like Wang Miao was pushed by her family to make the first move—it must be her family's idea since she asked him to be her boyfriend right after he visited her house.

After finishing his coffee, Gu Lin felt no fullness in his stomach, just a sense of loss in his heart.

Wang Miao said she wanted to "try being together," which definitely meant she was aiming for marriage. What about him? Had he just settled for this?

He had registered on the blind date website purely out of frustration from Shen Lingxin's provocation. Now that he had successfully gone on a blind date, that frustration had dissipated, but why did he feel so lost again?

The whole night passed peacefully, and the next morning he had his clinic shift until almost 2 p.m. before heading home.

When Gu Er rushed over and sniffed around him for a while, probably satisfied that he didn't smell strange, he calmly returned to play with his ball by the window. The day before yesterday when Gu Lin came back from Wang Miao's house, this dog had frantically bitten his pants leg and dragged him towards the bathroom, as if trying to throw him in like an innocent mobile phone.

Gu Lin hadn't eaten lunch and didn't feel hungry now. He took a bottle of beer from the fridge, opened it, and drank half in one go, leaving the rest on the table before going back to bed for some more sleep.

When he woke up again, it was past four o'clock. Thinking of Wang Miao, who had just become his girlfriend, and then thinking of his good friend Fan Sizhuo, he decided to call the latter and ask him out for dinner.

Fan Sizhuo was reluctant, saying he needed to accompany his girlfriend.

Gu Lin temporarily threw his pride into Gu Er's doghouse and earnestly invited Fan Sizhuo out to give him advice and guide him through life.

Fan Sizhuo, still having a conscience, pondered for a while and said he would come over after making dinner for his girlfriend. Gu Lin seized the opportunity, "Since you're cooking, make some extra. Bring your boyfriend too, let him have a bite."

Fan Sizhuo scold him a few times, then an hour later brought food and drinks to his place. Besides the rice and a dish of stir-fried green beans that he made himself, everything else was takeout.

Gu Lin arranged the food on plates, invited Fan Sizhuo to sit down, and as they drank and ate, he shared his concerns.

"I agreed to date the girl yesterday, and I was so nervous I couldn't sleep all night. What if we really start dating and it doesn't work out? Wouldn't that delay her plans for marriage?"
