Robin

The crisp click of my heels against the marble tiled floor rang crisp in the empty hall.

‘Robin, did you hear? There's a new recruit!’

‘Rumors say she's your successor. Did you know about this?’

I scowled as I remembered some of the endless chatter of my gossiping colleagues. Of course I didn't know about it!

I shoved open a door violently, the gold plaque with ‘Eagle’ engraved into it trembling against the wood. “Jason” I almost growled, “What's the meaning of this?”

He smiled charmingly, “Robin, baby, come sit” he patted his lap, but I remained standing, my arms crossed. He sighed helplessly, “You're angry”

I rolled my eyes, “No, I'm so fucking happy. Can't you tell?” I scoffed, “Don't try to draw this out, why the hell am I hearing news about me retiring? I never agreed to such”

“We've discussed this, dear” he rose to his feet slowly, “The workload is getting too much, and too dangerous for you. We're about to get married for God's sake.”

“So you decided to find a replacement before I gave you the go-ahead? You know I hate when you do shit like this.” I slapped his hand away before it could touch my face.

“Robin,” he said softly. I huffed and turned away from him. I heard him chuckle softly and felt his warm arms encircle my waist, his lips brushing against my curls. “I'm sorry, please don't be mad at me” he whispered, his fingers drawing circles on my lower belly.

I felt my ears burn, but didn't relent. “Let me go, don't touch me” I hissed. He laughed again and nipped at the tip of my ear. “You…”

“Am I interrupting something?”

Immediately, Jason's arms left me and I felt a sudden chill. I turned around and saw a pretty redhead standing at the open doorway. She was tall and lithe and pale like most natural redheads were and she wore…

“Is that my suit?” I asked quietly, my brows furrowed. “That's my suit”

“Modified” Jason said simply, crossing the distance towards her quickly, “Phoenix, are you done with training?” He asked gently.

Phoenix?

She nodded, her pretty eyes assessing me calmly. My stomach roiled with a cold, silent rage. “She's my replacement?”

He blinked as if out of a trance, “Oh, yes.” He nodded, “Robin, this is Phoenix, she's our new Ace” my eye twitched slightly. “You can take it slow now”

“Ja— I mean, Eagle” I said slowly, “You aren't getting me. I don't need a successor. I'm not retiring”

He frowned slightly, “Baby, you're only saying this because you're exhausted. Look, you still have blood on your collar. Go get cleaned up and we'll discuss this again when we get home. Okay?”

I pursed my lips, my eyes shifting to Phoenix who looked bored with the entire conversation, her arm tucked into his. My eyes narrowed, but I said nothing, leaving swiftly.
