Devotion and affection are the depth feelings of love that Twilight and Thorn Princess were feeling.
The feeling came to them not by choice, but naturally and spontaneous occurrence. Even when Twilight was pretending to be Loid, he had to admit that most of what he said and acted were his own feelings and not of his role as a spy.
