Casting a sideways glance at her gunslinger, she almost pinned Pekka Rollins on the spot. She initially thought Kaz had ran away. But why would he have done that? No, the Dregs took him. Rollins should start praying to whatever saint he believes in, Inej thought.

"I can almost see the gears turning in your pretty head, wraith," he grinned wickedly.

"I will rip out your heart and stuff it down your throat," she warned, the raw fury in her voice barely reigned in.

Jesper turned to her. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he whispered cautiously, and rather uncharacteristically.

Inej sucked in a sharp breath. "No mourners," she unsheaths two of her knives as Rollins' expression turns slightly less confident.

"No funerals." he finished. By the time this is finished; there is going to be at least one person to bury.

The aftermath consisted of Inej's broken arm, Jesper's face covered in blood, the Dregs gasping for air while laid on the cold gravel, and Pekka pleading for his life. A rather pleasant outcome for the crows.

"Please, I'm begging you.." he rasped, stumbling and grabbing a beam for support.

"Are you?" called a voice from behind Inej. Whipping around to face the familiar voice, she almost started sobbing when she saw Kaz, mostly unharmed and alive.

She dropped her knife and lunged to grasp his coat. "What happened?" she cried, eternally grateful that he was alright.

"Inej, love, calm down.." he smiled, grabbing her wrists. She let go of his coat with shaky hands and exhaled unevenly.

"Hey.." Kaz scooped her into his arms, tucking her head underneath his chin. "It's okay. I'm okay." he murmured.

"I thought you just up and left," she breathed, pulling her headscarf down to pool around her neck and covering her mouth with her hands.

"I didn't leave, I would never leave you," he whispered, watching as Jesper eyed him, silently asking what to do with Pekka Rollins.

"Let him go.." he mouthed, pulling her closer to his chest. She winced, holding her broken arm.

"I thought you left me.." she repeated, her breathing slowly becoming more controlled. There is no way he would ever leave her willingly.
