“Rinth. Riinthh. For the love of God, Rinth would you please open the door! I know you can hear me.”

“Leave me alone.” I groaned covering my ears to block out the sound of my best friend Akila who was desperately trying to wake me up. I already knew the reason why she wanted to wake me up so bad, but it was that very reason why I didn’t want to leave my bed.

“Labyrinth Cordelia Kali (I cringed at my much hated name) if you don’t open this door right now, I promise you that I will have to use necessary force.”

I didn’t budge, which was a huge mistake, because a few minutes later my door made a sickening crack and landed to the floor with a thud. I shot right out of bed.

“Oh my gosh! What did you do to my door?” I exclaimed while surveying the damage. There was a huge crack that ran down the middle of my door.

“Well I told you that if you didn’t open the door than I would have to use force, so I did just that.” she said smiling in a way that was supposed to make her look innocent.

I grinned knowing that I couldn’t stay mad at her for long.

“So, what’s wrong with you?” she asked. “You’re usually out of bed before I get here. Aren’t you going to school today?”

Oh yeah. I completely forgot about school, but right now I really don’t care about it. Right now I really don’t care about anything ever since I found out the horrifying truth from my parents yesterday.

“Sweetie, we need to talk to you for a minute.” Mom said beckoning to the empty space on our fur sofa between her and Dad.

“Sure.” I sat down between them confused with the serious looks on their faces. For my parents to be so serious, it must be something important that they had to say.

“I-I-I’m not really sure how to say this, but in exactly 2 and a half weeks, you’re going to die.” Dad muttered softly, but loudly enough for me to hear.

“What! I’m only 16! I have so much more to live for! Why am I going to die?”

“Calm down and let me finish. You’re going to die because..well it’s a long story so I might as well start from the beginning. When you were born as a Majix, you were extremely extraordinary. You had a dangerous amount of power, but there was one catch to it: you had no heart. In order to prevent you from dying we made a deal with a devil who offered to give you his heart until you turn 17, for then he would have to take his heart back. Having a demon heart and your powerful magic makes you abnormal, but also dangerous. You have the power that other people want: good and bad. You are something called a ‘dark angel’ which is an evil being as known in the past as the bringer of destruction. That’s where we got your name.  Labyrinth means dark angel, Cordelia means heart, and Kali means destruction. It tells what you are. I’m sorry that you had to find this out today, but we had to let you know before your birthday when you turn 17. I think it’s best now that you go to bed and take all this information in.” Mom and Dad gave me a big hug and sent me on my way. I rose from the sofa numbly and sulked to my bed.

“Hey Rinth. Can you hear me?” Akila questioned. She was waving her hands in front of my face.

“Yes I can hear you. Now stop waving your hands in front of my face like a crazy person.”

“Well excuse me for trying to check if my best friend was okay.” She feigned hurt so dramatically that I had to laugh. “So are you going to school? You have to because I can’t stand going to Majix Academy alone. Learning magic isn’t fun without my best friend there.”

“Yeah I’m going.” I decided not going to let this demon heart stuff get to me.

“Yay!” she squealed jumping up and giving me a hug. Sniff, sniff. “Umm before I go anywhere with you, you’re gonna need a bath because your smell is kicking.”

I laughed and headed to the bath room to get ready for school.
