TEN
After another chaotic Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, Victoria found herself heading to Transfiguration with Hermione, Harry, and Ron. The corridors were bustling as students chatted about their morning classes. Victoria could hear snippets of conversation about Lockhart's disastrous pixie demonstration, mixed with the usual chatter about Quidditch tryouts and upcoming Hogsmeade weekends.
But something else caught her attention—whispered rumors as she passed.
"She's a princess, isn't she?" one boy murmured to his friend, his eyes darting toward her.
"I heard she's next in line to be queen," another girl added, her voice hushed but audible.
Victoria sighed, her shoulders stiffening. She'd expected this to fade after her first year, but it seemed her title still fascinated the students.
"They're staring again," she muttered to Hermione.
Hermione gave her a sympathetic look. "You know it's because they don't understand. They're just curious."
"I know," Victoria replied, her tone weary. "It just gets old."
Ron, who had been walking a few steps ahead, turned back. "What gets old?"
"Being treated like a living museum exhibit," Victoria said with a small smile.
Harry frowned. "They shouldn't bother you about that."
"It's fine," she said quickly. "Honestly, I'm used to it. Let's just get to class."
When they arrived, Professor McGonagall was already at her desk, her sharp eyes watching the students as they filed in. Fred and George waved at Victoria from the back row, patting an empty seat between them.
"See you after class," Hermione whispered as Victoria split off from the trio and headed to join the twins.
"Fancy seeing you here," Fred said as she sat down, giving her a lopsided grin.
"Don't flatter yourself," Victoria replied. "I only sit with you because Angelina and Alicia make me."
"They just recognize quality company," George said.
"Sure they do," she said, rolling her eyes.
McGonagall began the lesson, her stern demeanor ensuring that even the Weasley twins kept their mischief to a minimum. The class worked on transforming teapots into tortoises, and for the most part, things went smoothly—until George's tortoise began spouting steam like a kettle.
"That's a new one," Victoria said, trying not to laugh as George hastily waved his wand to fix it.
"Just giving it a bit of character," George said with a grin.
