Ruby's POV
Joshua and I are lying in bed, completely absorbed in each other as we make out. His kisses trail down to my neck, sending shivers through me. He pulls back for a second, tossing his shirt across the room, then reaches to unclasp my bra. His lips travel lower, softly grazing over my breast. A small moan escapes my lips, and just as things start to heat up, the door suddenly flies open.
"The door wasn't locked. Am I interrupting sex?" Kylie's voice comes from the doorway, her tone laced with panic, her eyes wide as if she's stumbled upon a murder scene.
Joshua freezes mid-motion, his mouth still pressed against me, and starts to speak, "No, but—"
"Good, then scoot over," Kylie interrupts, barging in as if this is her bed too. She pushes Joshua aside without hesitation and flops down right in the middle of us.
Joshua sits up, his brows furrowed, and glances at me, clearly irritated. "You can't just climb into bed with us, Kylie! What if we were having sex?" he protests, exasperation oozing from his voice.
"Then you should have locked the door," she replies casually, tossing me my bra.
I can't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the situation as I put my bra back on. Kylie acts as if nothing out of the ordinary is happening, while Joshua looks as if he's on the verge of losing his mind. I scoot over and lay down next to her, the warmth of her presence familiar and strangely comforting despite the circumstances.
Joshua, still half-naked, reluctantly lies back down as well, muttering under his breath. He crosses his arms, clearly annoyed, and places a pillow strategically over his lap to hide his, well, situation. As if Kylie hasn't seen him like this before. The room falls into an awkward silence, with Joshua pouting, Kylie staring blankly at the ceiling, and me just trying to process what's happening.
Finally, Kylie breaks the tension, her voice shaky and full of apprehension. "Should I have bought a ring?"
Ah. Of course, this is about Malia. Kylie is so hopelessly, ridiculously in love, and I absolutely live for it.
Joshua throws his hands in the air, clearly fed up. He props himself up on his elbows and looks at Kylie, incredulous. "Are you serious right now?" he asks, his tone dripping with sarcasm, though the slight curve of a smile betrays him.
"Josh..." I warn, shooting him a pointed look. He sighs dramatically but flops back onto the bed like the good sport he is.
Kylie lets out a long breath, her nerves clearly getting the best of her. "Should I have asked for her hand?" she repeats, her voice tinged with genuine panic.
Joshua bursts out laughing, and his laughter is so contagious that I can't help but join in. This girl is really overthinking it, and it's both adorable and hilarious.
"We don't live in the '50s, Kylie. Please," I say between laughs, hoping to ease her worries. My words seem to help, as she looks at me with a small, relieved smile, though there's still a hint of worry lingering in her eyes.
"I'm scared, Ruby. I don't know how to do this," she admits, her voice quiet and vulnerable.
I reach out, opening my arms in invitation, and she immediately snuggles into my embrace like a lost puppy. I glance at Joshua, trying to silently convey with my eyes that he should say something reassuring, but he just stares back at me, completely clueless. God, men can be so dense sometimes.
"Josh, maybe you can give her some tips," I suggest, raising an eyebrow at him.
He blinks at me like I've just asked him to solve quantum physics. "I can?" he asks, clearly confused.
