Months had passed.
"Paki-lapag na lang po riyan," I instructed, pointing to where the large crib should be placed. It was a royal blue crib that Martin had bought from Barcelona. He said he couldn’t wait for the twins to be born.
Even his brothers sent us packages.
There were quite a lot of them, but I hadn't opened a single one yet. I planned to bring them home to Las Piñas. Although I knew Martin was having the house in Batangas renovated, I told him how I truly felt when he asked me about it.
I spent several months in the States, waiting for things to cool down. I asked for Martin's permission before joining my cousin and his nephews. What he didn’t know was which country I’d gone to, as I didn’t head straight to Dubai.
He assumed I was hiding there.
So he failed to find me.
I later learned that he was furious. I distanced myself so he could sort everything out. But knowing Martin, he always gets what he wants.
The governor tracked me down.
He found me in San Francisco while I was buying bread. I remember how he almost ran towards me, closing the gap between us. I couldn’t help but laugh at how red he was with frustration. Still, he couldn’t stay mad because he loves me.
His angry expression melted away, disappearing like smoke.
When he finally held my hand, caressed my face, and kissed my forehead, he whispered. "Please, this would be the last time we'll be playing fucking hide and seek."
The tension was there, but he couldn’t do anything more.
With all the supplements and vitamins, my babies were healthy. But I was still thin—it was just my pregnant belly that was growing. It felt heavier now, though I could manage the weight.
My back just hurt like hell sometimes. Martin would massage me every night.
Looking at the nursery setup, I felt overjoyed. I gently rubbed my belly as I stepped out of the room meant for our children.
Passing through the hallway, I noticed a stash of snacks on a glass tray. I grabbed one to eat while walking to Martin's study.
He came home early today from the capitol. His team distributed educational assistance to students from low-income families.
May programa pa siyang dinaluhan bago magtungo roon. Walang makapag kwestiyon sa kaniya kung anong nangyari sa mga proyektong inaprobahan ng gobyerno. Natapos niya lahat bago pa magsimula ang filing of candidacy at itong nalalapit na end of his term as governor.
Masaya naman ang mga tao.
Maayos ang mga daan, tawiran, at tulay. Mayroong ospital para sa mga taong walang kakayahang magbayad sa pribadong ospital. Marami siyang scholars.
He maybe used his position as connection for his personal business. Hindi niya naman pinabayaan ang obligasyon sa mga mamamayan.
I know that deep down in his dark silhouette, he cares about them.
However, things heated up when rumors spread that he and my father wouldn’t be in the same political party in the next election.
I avoided social media platforms. People were bringing up past controversies—our scandal. My father never released a statement explaining his decision to switch party lists. The only thing he clarified was my innocence in the issue involving Martin, his long-time friend.
