Between Duty and Desire

(Part 5)

DISCLAIMER: Torture (psychological and physical), Swearing, Violence, Fighting, Death (don't worry it's not anyone that we necessarily 'love')

Word Count: 7579 words

I'm so sorry I made this one soooo long. I just kept coming up with new things to add and it felt choppy when I tried to split it up. So, I put it all in one big long chapter.

Grab some snacks and enjoy ♥

**Also quick side note, just so things make more sense. We're gonna pretend that Palpatine was never the Chancellor in this alternate universe :)

The shuttle touched down with a heavy thud, its ramp lowering to reveal the jagged black rock of Mustafar's surface. The heat hit me first, suffocating and relentless, followed by the stench of sulfur and molten metal. My restraints dug into my wrists as I was pulled forward, Dooku's firm grip on my arm ensuring there would be no resistance. Two MagnaGuards flanked me, their electrostaffs humming menacingly, their cold mechanical gazes boring into my back.

I tried to focus on the force, to center myself, but the oppressive weight of the Dark side suffused the air, tainting every breath I took. The closer we got to the looming tower ahead, the more it pressed against my mind, whispering in insidious tones that made my skin crawl.

The grand doors opened with a groan, revealing a cavernous chamber illuminated by the flickering orange glow of the lava flows outside. At the far end of the room, seated upon a throne of blackened stone, was Sidious. His presence was a void in the force, a swirling mass of malice and power that threatened to swallow me whole.

"Ah, my dear. Welcome." His voice slithered through the air, both mocking and commanding. "You've come far, haven't you? Tell me, how does it feel to finally stand at the edge of your destiny."

I was shoved forward, forced to my knees before him. Dooku released my arm but remained at my side, his expression unreadable. My heart raced as I glared up at Sidious, refusing to bow my head despite the weight of his presence bearing down on me.

"I don't care about your plans," I spat, my voice steady despite the terror clawing at my insides. "I won't be a pawn in whatever game you're playing."

Sidious chuckled, a low and menacing sound that sent a shiver down my spine. He rose from his throne, descending the steps slowly, his every movement deliberate.

"You misunderstand, child," he said, circling me like a predator sizing up its prey. "The Jedi feared your potential. They sought to suppress it, to bind you in their chains of weakness and restraint. But I—" he leaned closer, his breath cold despite the sweltering heat of the planet, "I will show you who you truly are."

I clenched my fists, anger flaring within me. "I know who I am," I snapped. "And I'll never become what you want me to be."

"Won't you?" He extended a hand, his long fingers clawlike. "Tell me, child, what do you see when you dream? Who do you see?"

The question struck me like a blow, the words unlocking a door I'd been desperately trying to keep shut. The image came unbidden—the dark version of myself, her eyes burning with cruelty, her presence a storm of rage and power.

I froze, unable to hide the flicker of recognition in my eyes. Sidious smiled, his triumph evident. "Ah, you've met her. Your true self."

"No," I whispered, shaking my head, my voice trembling. "That's not me."
