~Unexpected Marriage~
The door opened to reveal Mrs. Kim, who slightly turned back to glance at her daughter-in-law, who was hesitantly standing at the threshold, her gaze fixed on the dark hall beyond.
"Come inside," Mrs. Kim's voice was calm yet firm, breaking the silence. Mishti stepped into the grand apartment that belonged to her rich husband, Kim Taehyung.
The lights turned on automatically, revealing an expansive hall adorned with sleek, modern architecture. Mr. Kim settled on the plush sofa, while Mrs. Kim made her way into the kitchen. Mishti stood rooted, quietly observing the immense space that seemed cold despite its grandeur.
"Have a seat, Mishti," Mr. Kim said, his deep voice echoing slightly as he gestured toward the sofa. She nodded and sat down, her movements hesitant and careful, as though afraid of disturbing the silence.
Moments later, Mrs. Kim returned, carrying a tray with three glasses of water. She placed them down with precision, first serving her husband, then Mishti, and finally herself. Mishti accepted the glass, her fingers trembling slightly, and sipped cautiously. All the while, she could feel the couple's eyes on her, their expressions unreadable.
"Be comfortable, child. This is your home now," Mrs. Kim said softly, her tone laced with a quiet reassurance. Mishti looked at her and gave a faint nod, the weight of the words sinking in slowly.
Just then, the main door swung open, and a group of helpers entered, wheeling in her luggage.
"Keep them in that room," Mrs. Kim instructed briskly, standing up to oversee the process.
"This was all done in such haste," Mr. Kim said after a moment, his voice was steady. "You haven't had the time to process everything." He paused, letting the weight of his words linger before continuing. "But now, you are Taehyung's wife, and we both wish you a happy married life." Rising to his feet, he straightened his coat.
Mrs. Kim approached Mishti with a kind smile. "Your luggage has been placed in Taehyung's room. Arrange it however you prefer," she said, resting a comforting hand on Mishti's arm. Mishti nodded once again, unable to find her voice amidst the overwhelming situation.
"He had some work to attend to, so he had to leave directly from the wedding venue," Mrs. Kim added as she and Mr. Kim prepared to leave. "I hope you understand."
Mishti watched as the couple left, closing the door behind them. Alone now, she took a long look at the sprawling hall, its pristine surfaces and muted tones exuding a sense of sterility. Slowly, she dragged herself to the room designated for her.
The room was vast, even larger than the hall, with clean lines and a neutral palette-modern, minimalistic, and devoid of warmth. Mishti sighed as she stood there, her gaze sweeping over the unfamiliar space.
"So this is how it's supposed to be," she murmured under her breath before turning to her luggage.
Dusk settled over the bustling city of Seoul, and the world outside began to quiet. Mishti hadn't realized when sleep had claimed her, but the faint click of the front door unlocking jolted her awake. She blinked, trying to clear her vision, and sat up on the sofa in the hall.
Her gaze fell on Taehyung as he entered the house, his expression a mixture of weariness and frustration. Their eyes met-this was the second time, the first being at the podium during their unexpected wedding. His jaw tightened, and without a word, he strode into his room.
Mishti's eyes followed him, unsure of what to do. Moments later, Taehyung stormed out, his expression thunderous, his arms thrown open in exasperation.
"Ige mwongayo!" he exclaimed, his voice sharp and impatient.
She frowned, confused. "Huh?"
Taehyung sighed, his frustration evident. "What is this? What have you done to my room?" he asked, his tone firm and accusatory.
Mishti quickly stood, her voice soft but rushed. "I'm sorry. I was tired, so I fell asleep, and-" She stopped, realizing her explanation wasn't helping. "I'll clean it up right away," she added, retreating into the room to gather her belongings.
Taehyung scoffed, running a hand through his hair as he slumped onto the sofa, rubbing his temples.
A few minutes later, Mishti reemerged, her voice hesitant. "I've cleaned it. You can go in now."
He rose without a word, his movements stiff and angry. As he entered the room, he slammed the door behind him, causing her to flinch. Mishti stood there for a moment, biting her lip, before turning to her things piled neatly in the corner.
Inside the room, Taehyung glanced at the disarray with a frustrated expression before heading into the bathroom. After a cold shower, he emerged wearing a T-shirt and shorts, his gaze landing on the dining table, now set with dishes.
He frowned and took a step toward the kitchen, where Mishti was pouring warm milk into a glass.
"You made all this?" he asked, his tone softer but still laced with curiosity, as he pointed to the spread, she looked up at him and nodded with a small smile.
