Chapter 3: Into the Abyss
Maya's first lead took her to Berlin, where a shadowy underground group had formed to resist the Network. They called themselves The Firebrand Collective. But finding them wasn’t easy—Maya had to use every trick in her book to avoid surveillance, hack through firewalls, and forge new identities.
One night, in a nondescript bar on the outskirts of the city, she finally made contact with someone who could help. A man named Elias, a former operative who had narrowly escaped the clutches of the Network after a botched mission. His life was in tatters, but he was one of the few who had survived.
"You're asking for the impossible, Agent Stroud," Elias said, sipping his drink with weary eyes. "The Oracle isn't just a person—it's a system. It’s everywhere, and no one has ever gotten close to finding it."
Maya wasn't convinced. "But you know how it works. You’ve seen the operation firsthand."
Elias sighed. "You think you’re the first to try and take them down? I’ve watched half a dozen teams like yours vanish without a trace. They’re always one step ahead."
But Maya wouldn’t back down. She needed to know if The Oracle could be real, or if it was just another myth the Network had used to control the resistance.
