Pain that is all I feel once I am awake. Breathing hurts my chest. It feels like it is on fire. I try to open my eyes, but I can't seem too. I try again but I can't.
"Andrew, please wake up. It's your sister, Sophia. You've been asleep for a week. The doctors think you are going to die." I hear Sophia sob.
In desperation I try to open my eyes again. I succeed, but I have to close my eyes again form the bright light that is pointed at me. I groan and open my eyes again.
"Andrew?" Sophia says. "Are you awake?" She asks.
"Yeah," I whisper, "I'm awake." I say opening my eyes slowly.
"Thank you Jesus! Oh thank you God!" She cries out and immediately she hugs me.
"Agh," I groan out, I intake a breath as I feel even more pain than before.
Sophia backs away and quickly says, "Oh! I'm so sorry, oh sorry Andrew!"
I smile and look at her, "It's okay Soph, just glad to see you." I look around and ask, "What happened? Why am I here?" I look at Sophia and I can see a confused expression on her face.
"You don't remember?" she asks, her eyebrows scrunched up.
I shake my head, back then stop because it hurt. "No." I say slightly groaning, "I don't remember anything. Can you give a hint on what happened?" I ask, hoping that it'll help me remember something.
"Well, there was a fire in our neighborhood and you went to go put out a fire at a house, but then you, I think, heard some voices and found a woman and an unconscious man. You saved them both but you couldn't get out because the roof collapsed, breaking your leg in the process, and then the whole house collapsed, burning you and making you unconscious." She said.
"Oh." I said, "I kind of remember it. I remember my saving the woman, and the man, and me falling." I said in a daze. "Now I remember everything. I remember the fire everywhere, the smoke, the debris, and me unable to stand because of my leg." I said pointing at it. I look at my sister and asked, "Who found me?"
She then looks at the floor and slides her foot around, "I, um, I found you." She said quietly.
"You?" I asked pointing at her, "You found me? But you could've gotten hurt! What were you thinking?!" I said, my voice getting louder.
"I couldn't help myself. I really needed to make sure that you were alive, so I, uh, I punched Kyle in the face just so I could find you." She the laughs a little and I just stare at her in shock. She punched her own boyfriend just so she could rescue me?
I then started laughing, "You punched Kyle?" She nodded her head and blushed. "Oh man, that is funny!" I said and laughed some more. She then started to laugh with me and soon we couldn't stop laughing. But I had to stop since it hurt a lot to laugh. "Ow." I winced and clutched my stomach.
"Do you want me to get the doctor?" she asks coming closer. I nod my head and lean my head back. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. You will be fine. I tell myself and take more breathes.
When the doctor comes into the room he says, "Good afternoon Andrew, how are you feeling today?" He then places his clip board onto the counter and sits in his wheel chair and looks at me.
"I'm really sore everywhere." I say honestly, looking at him.
The doctor nods his head, "That is understandable. You received three degree burns on your arms, legs, a two degree burn on your torso, and a one degree burn on your face. Your left leg is badly broken, and I don't believe that your arms will be very functional once it heals as much as it can." He says pointing where all the burns are.
