Chapter One
When NYPD Detective James Harrison, aged twenty-four, from Detective Bureau of Manhattan's South Homicide Squad was headed to a bank in Manhattan, he and his partner Ben Diemaet responded by driving to the location. The Detective Bureau underwent a reorganization that created a single command for all investigative activities in an effort to further lower crime in New York City. The Detective Bureau's job frequently supplements that of the police officers assigned to the precincts and is in charge of preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activity. In order to capture suspects and establish strong cases against them, detective work is quite specialized and typically involves the analysis and interpretation of evidence.
James began working for the NYPD in 2020, and in 2022 he was elevated to Detective of the Homicide Unit. From 2020 to 2021, he served as the principal investigator on a major case. The New York City Police Department's (NYPD) South Manhattan Homicide Squad looks into firearm-related homicides and major assaults. The Homicide Squads are part of the NYPD Detective Bureau, which is in charge of preventing, identifying, and looking into criminal activity. Upon arriving, they parked their unmarked police car and proceeded to the crime scene.
As a detective, James may speak with suspects and conduct interviews with witnesses and alleged victims. Cyber surveillance is one type of surveillance that detectives may employ when looking into a case.Social networking: Investigators might look at posts on social media.Investigating a case may require detectives to go undercover.Investigators may collaborate with informants and private sources.
Upon arrival at the crime scene, James secured the area, identified potential witnesses, and collaborated with the CSU to collect and document evidence, including DNA, blood, fingerprints, and trace materials.
The CSU documented the crime scene layout by surveying, measuring, photographing, and diagramming the area. With the medical examiner's help, the detective identified the victim and then performed an autopsy to determine how and why they died. While an NYPD officer watched Medical Examiner Melinda Yovannie examine a deceased man who resembled the bank robbery suspect, James approached. "Melinda, explain what's going on."" says James as he walks up to Melinda. John Wayne is his name. The recent bank robbery, which occurred two hours ago, led to him being a suspect. Melinda stated that a body was found behind the bank; the cause of death was strangulation.
"So he was strangled to death?" wondered James.
"Yeah," answered Melinda.
"Okay. How long did it last from the time he was alive until he died?" James asked.
"I'd estimate about five minutes,"Melinda reported. "Someone strangled him, and he died."
James sighed. James noticed as he looked close to John where he saw a tattoo on John's neck. "He has a neck tattoo," James stated, kneeling.
"Yeah. I noticed that as well. I would say he is a part of a gang or something. I mean, I can't tell for sure," says Melinda.
"Okay." James takes a deep breath and sighs. James rises to his feet again. "Okay. My partner and I will go question some witnesses," says James, as he walks past Melinda. Ben follows James from behind. James got his notepad and pen to write important information for the case after he had approached the woman who was a witness.
"Hi, I'm Detective Harrison and this is my partner Detective Ben Diemaet.
"Do you mind answering a few questions?" James asked. "No," answered the woman.
"Was it you who saw the bank robbery, the suspect running away, and then discovered him on the ground?" James asked.
"Yes, that's correct," says the woman.
