It's the kind of day where everything feels just a little bit more intimate, even in a crowd. That's exactly how it felt skating through the streets with Gus. The wind tossing through my hair, and the rough sound of the skateboard wheels clicking against the pavement seemed to blend into the noise of the city around us.

"you tryna outskate me?" Gus called from behind me, his voice dripping with mock annoyance. The teasing tone made me laugh,
"trying?..I am!" I giggled.

"Yea- Slow down, you're gonna fall on your face," Gus added, a little too confident for someone who wasn't exactly a pro at this.

I glanced back, grinning. "You wish you could keep up." I kicked my foot off the pavement a little harder, picking up speed anr Gus didn't miss a beat.

"You're all talk, Jordyn."
He shot past me in a smooth motion, making it look effortless. Dammit. I picked up the pace, determined not to let him win this time. We were cruising toward the skate park, and I wasn't about to let Gus get the last word.

We made it to the half-pipe, both of us taking a sharp turn into the curve, the wind roaring in our ears. The adrenaline hit me all at once, like a shot of pure electricity. Gus was right behind me, his laughter still ringing in my ears as I slid effortlessly around the curve.

Gus stopped skating to just smile at me from the ledge.

I rolled around a few more times before going to rest on a bench near by.
