The lady was conflicted. She didn't know what to think. Her thoughts were all scattered and lost at the general's words.

"So join me, Ningguang," the general calmed down and extended her hand one last time. "Help me obliterate the queen for good and put an end to all of this madness."

The general kept eye contact with the lady, waiting for a response. Ningguang's eyes only quivered, reluctant on her actions.

"We shall rebuild again," the general said in a low voice, looking intensely into the lady's eyes.

Ningguang extended her hand and slowly reached for her.

Just as she was almost touching the general's palm, Ningguang shouted, "don't waste my time!" and in a swift, she powerfully threw her gems at the general, causing her to fly backwards and hit the ground.

Dust and smoke filled the air from the impact. Ningguang glanced back at the captain behind her, making sure if she was alright. Beidou was still struggling to get up. She was too weak. She would only wince in pain from moving.

"Don't move, Beidou," the lady said. "It'll only hurt more. Stay still, please."

The captain couldn't even mutter a word, but nonetheless stopped moving and laid her head against the ground. The lady could tell she felt useless and disappointed in herself for not helping her. Beidou breathed heavily.

"Do not worry, my captain," Ningguang assured. "I got this. This will be over soon. I will bring us home." The lady returned to facing the figure who was getting up from her impact.

The general swept the dust off of her suit and chuckled. "You and agent Ningguang are really alike," she stated. "You both just know how to be stubborn in your own way."

"I will not join you," Ningguang hissed.

The general's laughter stopped and the lady was faced with a stern expression. "This is your last chance, Ningguang. I have declared my duty to you and morals. What more do I need to tell you in order for you to stay with me?"

"Nothing will ever doubt my decision in not joining you," Ningguang bitterly said. "Your greed for authority only grows and one day when you've had enough of your little act, you will force everyone to bow down to you and treat them like animals, as you have with your agents."

"You are uttering nonsense."

"You punish your agents to show them the consequences of breaking the rules. You do it to scare them. You do it because you are scared that maybe one day, they will break as many rules and will overthrow you," Ningguang got more angry just thinking about what she had gone through to receive scars on her back. "Deep down, you're just a coward who uses power to only protect yourself."

"You dare speak foul of me, Ningguang?" The general shook her head and furrowed her brows. "I am the suited leader for this city! I am the only living heroine left of the Qixing, the only worthy one ruling an entire city! I am the beginning of future generations who are destined to be rulers. No one shall dare cross that line."

"You were never born to be a ruler," the lady coldly said. "You were never destined to be a leader."

"You do not know-"

"Your heart has turned stone cold and revenge only fuels you. You take advantage of your authority. One little mishap and you completely lose it. One little disobedience and you go overboard and punish without letting others justify themselves. Is that what it takes to be a "worthy" leader?!" Ningguang shouted, fully enraged and ready to attack at any moment.

The general clenched her jaw. "Only the worthy are strong," she scowled and ran toward the lady.

Ningguang did not hesitate to bring herself forward as well and prepared to form her jade screen.
