book one - ryan

"Ryan. Hey!"

"What, Brayden?"

"You okay, bud? You seem, quiet, y'know."

"I'm fine, I guess. Just don't worry."

"I'm your friend; I'm suppose to worry."

". . .thanks."

-

I was never really grateful for him back then.

We were best friends, along with Mitch. But when he moved away, we drifted apart and I just stopped talking. Mitch was the glue; he was the one that kept us all together, the one that made sure none of us would break.

But he's gone now and I can't change that.

"What about we make a story about. . .ALIENS."

"No."

I still had Brayden, but we both knew that we weren't as close now than before. We were two former friends, unintentionally trying to mend a friendship. At least, I was; Brayden could be just befriending me out of pity, but I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

And as I sat there, next to Brayden as he rambled, it felt nice to have him back in my life. I was used to being alone with my problems, no one there to help me through it.

I looked over to my left, seeing Brayden huff and thinking silently. A small smile appeared on my face before I switched to a new song : Coffee's for Closers.

"You still have this song?"

"Yeah..."

"This was our song back then..."

"I know."

I felt the bed move slightly and looked to my side. Brayden faced me, a crooked smile on his face. His hair was all ruffled and the corners of his eyes crinkled. He stretched his arm out and pulled me into a hug.

"I missed you a lot, Ryan." He whispered.

"S-Same." I smiled before checking the clock on the wall. A sigh left me a moment after.

"No problem, but I need you to do me a favor." Brayden grinned,

"Keep me company?"
