I'm finishing to prepare myself for the volleyball match when I hear a knock on the door.

I go to open and see my rival from the opposite team standing there

"what do you want now?"

"are you ready for being defeated today?"

"defeated? are you sure you're using the right wording?"

"yes I'm sure because I'll do anything in my power to beat you"

"well, I'll love to see you trying then. you know you just won't make it against me"

"what makes you think that?"

"well, I have to admit you're a pretty good player sometimes, but your team sucks. they are not able to do anything and you probably won't win against us. we're more trained"

I can see her little smile disappearing and her expression becoming sadder. she's on the verge of tears now and I'm sorry for her, because she just didn't get a good team and she really cares about the sport.

she turns around and starts running away without answering. I follow her and grab her wrist

"wait a moment"

"what?"

her voice is cracking with sadness and my heart breaks.

"hey, I didn't mean to make you feel this bad"

"no, you're right. you're perfectly right, my team sucks and.. I will never win anything in this sport because for how much I try my teammates are not good at this and it impacts me as well..."

I hug her tightly

"I'm so sorry for that .. but i have an idea"

"yeah?"

"you know, we're missing one person on our team..after this match, you could change if you like"

"really?"

"yes. you'll be welcome between us , if you want"

she smiles warmly and hugs me tighter

"God, thank you so much. you're so kind to me and I don't deserve it for how shitty I've been to you"

"you don't have to worry about that. we just started this little banter between us but maybe it's not worthy to always fight"
