Tiny Hands (A Steven Universe story)

Day One

Amethyst
I wake up in Steven's room. Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire and baby Steven are all sleeping in the same bed as me.

'Weird' I think as I climb out of the bed. I walk down the stairs as quietly as I can so I don't wake anybody up.

I get to the bottom and see Greg in the kitchen.

"Hey, Greg. What cha doin?" I whisper. He turns around and sees me standing there.

"Hey, Amethyst. Just getting some coffee. What are you doing up, its 4:50 in the morning?"

"I like to watch the sun come up." I tell him with a childish grin. "Wanna come?"

He shrugs. "Sure."

I walk to the fridge and grab a bag of donughts and a box of pineapple juice. "Let's go."

He looks confused. "Where?"

"The top of the hill. You can see forever up there."

"Sounds like a great spot."

One five minute walk later we are settled at the top of the hill above the temple. The sky is just showing signs of a thin line of dusky pink. We sit in the silence enjoying our donughts. Suddenly a thought comes to my mind.

"Hey, Greg?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you nervous? I mean about Steven?"

He thinks for a moment. Then looks at me. "Yeah, I'm a bit nervous." He pauses. "But I'm more excited. I've never had a kid before, this is brand new for all of us."

"Do you miss Rose?" He get tears in his eyes.

"Yes, I miss her very much. But she wouldn't want us to cry. She- Rose would want us to remember all the fun and happy times we shared together."

"Like when I first came home to the temple! I was so happy to have a home with gems who loved me and were kind to me. I gave Rose a big hug and she laughed and hugged me back." I say remembering that day so many years ago.

"And like when you sang songs with Rose and I hit the drums!" Greg laughs.

"Yeah! See we have lots of happy memories, don't we?"

"Yeah." I sigh as I stretch and lay on my stomach to watch the sun peak over the ocean.

"And we are gonna have lots more happy memories with Steven too!" I say.

"You bet." He tells me. "Do you think he is going to like me, Amethyst?"

I think for a moment. "I know he will. Pearl, Ruby and Sapphire say Rose is half of Steven. And Rose really loved you. Steven is gonna love you even more cause you are his daddy."

Greg smiles. "Thanks, Amethyst. Your pretty smart for a little gem." He says rubbing my hair.

Suddenly there is loud crying coming from the temple.

"What is that?" I ask.

"We gotta get to the temple!"

We run down the hill and into the temple in time to see Ruby bubble Steven.

"Ruby!" Greg yells. All three snap around, terrified looks on their faces.

"We didn't do anything, I swear!" Ruby tells us.

Its a good thing I didn't go to far from the temple. Who knows what would have happened.

"Ruby, why did you bubble Steven?" 'Don't they know anything about infants?'
