Weeks had passed by . . the first day she waited just to see if the NBA star would actually dial her number. Once she was proven wrong she focused back on her college transition. Summer would soon be over, meaning the school year would soon be approaching for the young woman. In less then 3 weeks,As for now however, the 19 year old was in a suburban Walmart with both her youngest siblings. The 3 year old twins, Elena and Shaun. Humming as she moved the two seat basket down the aisle. Her parents had gave her a specific list of what to get, and a certain amount of money that would be just enough after tax. The list consisted of your average foods and baby supplies. Just the basics they needed to get by, no luxury items.
The twins babbled between each other as she looked for the Frosted Flakes that Isiah insisted the household needed. Irritation rushed over the young woman as she looked for the box that usually had the large tiger on it. Then she felt a hand brush on her shoulder that was slightly exposed, the touch was gentle and soft.
She was surprised to see the same man from the arena, Klay Thompson. She knew she had ridden to the better side of California, but not anywhere that she'd run into someone famous. Startled she looked at what he was holding in his hand, her shopping list. "I think you dropped this." he smiled handing her the list. She fumbled with her words taking the list from his grasp.
"Thank you, I didn't even noticed I dropped it." she smiled looking up at the mixed man. "No problem, its fancy meeting you here. You did say LA was a big place." feeling her stomach get nervous, recalling the tale she slightly lived into that night at the arena. "Well, I actually don't live to far from here." Another lie. Scratching the back of her head she looked over at the twins who were content talking to each other.
"Oh, you have kids?" the young man looked over that the infants in the basket, slightly feeling defeated. He wasn't trying to get tangled into a woman with kids. "Oh no, those are my siblings. Elena and Shaun." she shrugged laughing off the fact he assumed she was a mother. Did she look like she could be a mother? And if so should she feel offended?
Shaking his head in a understanding motion "Alright, I see. So 4 siblings?" he actually hadn't broke eye contact with the woman the whole time. "Yep, 4. I guess my parents love kids, they're not that bad though." breaking her slight gaze as her eyes landed on the box of frosted flakes under close to the right side of her basket. Grabbing the box she began to grip the handles on the basket. Awkward conversations just weren't her thing.
"Wait before you go, I'd love to hang with you sometime. When you don't have any of the 4 with you, Malayia right?" he smiled, but mentally he was smirking knowing his charm was smooth. Though in Malaysia's head she was annoyed and upset, not only did he not remember her name, but he most of forgot the fact he asked for her number. "Actually its Malaysia, and not to be rude Mr.Thompson. But if you really had interest in talking to me, you'd probably remember the fact I gave you my number. I'm sorry, I'm not some loosey. Now I have to go." shaking her head she pushed the basket out the aisle heading toward the check out.
The Jackson's sat down at dinner . . . looking around at her family, Malaysia had come to the realization of how much she was going to miss moments like that. Her mother's home cooking, father's corny jokes, and Melanie and Isiah's constant arguing and topic changing conversations. As dinner progressed, she felt her back pocket vibrate and soon begin to ring.
Glaring over at her, her father spoke "No phones at the table May, you know that." she sent him a small smile. She had completely forgot she had it in her pocket. Looking at the caller ID it was an unsaved number. "One second, I promise it won't happen again." getting up she walked around the one story house into her room. "Hello? This is Malaysia." answering the unknown number she heard a familiar voice spill out the other end.
"As I was saying earlier, I'd love to hang out some time. Malaysia." his voice hinted a bit of playful manner, that sent a goofy smile on the woman's face. She hadn't expected any actual result to come form what she said in the store. "Klay, I'm actually in the middle of dinner. With my family." she brushed her hair out her eyes looking around her part of the shared room, that had bare walls and close to an empty dresser. "Alright, well you have dinner with your family. And tomorrow we can have dinner." the basketball player spoke from his end of the line, though he felt he sounded too commanding. "I mean if you want of course." he stuttered, was he nervous?
"Um, sure. I'd like that, just text me the address." a little taken back, she bit her lip through the other side of the phone while she smiles. Both felt like silly young teens in middle or something. He responded with a little glee in his voice.
"Great, it's a date."
