If i asked you to describe a monster for me,

what would you say?

Tall green limbs,

4 eyes,

no mouth,

no sight,

maybe you'd say enhanced sight,

the ability to see your lies,

your faults,

what you hide.

Spiky hands,

ears that stick out,

a rotten smell,

feasting on bones of prey, perhaps?

Or maybe, just maybe,

you'd say—

2 legs,

2 arms,

a heart that desires to feel the love it gives.

2 eyes,

a rosy mouth,

rounded ears,

a nose that's disgusted by the smallest things,

2 hands,

a mind,

and freckles scattering across its cheeks.

Maybe you'd say yourself.

Maybe you'd say a lover.

Maybe, you'd see me the way I see my reflection—

red skin,

an uneven nose,

a mind that thinks too much.

Long fingers,

and a heart that mourns what never was.

But then,

perhaps you'd see a monster in me.

A being not bound by the usual laws of love and hate,

one who devours what it desires,

crushing emotions in its wake.

A twisted image of what you crave,

but perhaps, not what you need.

And maybe, just maybe,

we're all monsters,

in our own way.

Or are we simply creatures yearning

for something to hold,

to love,

to forgive ourselves for?

If I asked you to describe for me a monster, what would you say?
