I was very surprised to feel something different. It actually felt comfortable. Maybe I'm just too far gone to know the difference. No. My head feels much clearer.
"You know she will try to escape."
"I could stay in the car if you would like."
I felt someone's eyes on me for second.
"Nah. She's still out"
After I heard two doors close and felt the shake I opened my eyes. I was on the back seat of a large truck. I waited a while to make sure they would be in the store when I sat up. I looked around and immediately laid back down because there was a dark haired man filling the truck with gas. I waited for as long as I could stand. I heard the truck fire up again and there was a small amount of movement before it came to a stop again. The man took the keys out of the ignition and got out of the truck. I waited for an eternity before I slowly sat up again. Most of my dizziness was gone but my leg was throbbing. When I looked at it I noticed that they had cleaned and bandaged the wound. I also noticed that my arm had been taken care of. After some time I realized that I should wait to assess my condition until I am free. I climbed over the middle console between the front seats and climbed out of the truck. I then saw the guy come out of the store and look me dead in the eye. It took everything I had to start running again. Part of me just wanted to give up.
"Wait" He yelled. "You'll be ok"
Amen to that! I am free now!
"Stop! We just want to help you."
I didn't believe it for one second. The other guy came running out of the store. There was a patch of trees near the gas station that seemed to be rather large. I decided to try to find a place to hide deep in there. As I ran the dizziness came back and I could barely see. All I could hope for is that I lose them before I trip. Before I knew it I felt my foot snag on some unseen obstacle and I knew it was over. I just turned around to face them giving up on the idea of escaping. As they caught up all I had left was to plead. This time I didn't really care if they could see my fear. I know I can't hide it.
"Please. He never has to know. Just let me go. I will stop looking into this. Please" as I spoke I felt all the pain and stress of the last few days come out in my voice. "Please, please"
"We rescued you" The dark haired one said. The other one just looked at me with sympathy.
I just wanted to believe them. I stayed quiet waiting to hear their explanation.
"We escaped. We have been trying to help others escape too. We hope to ruin their operations. You have to believe me. I would never hurt you." The ginger one looked me dead in the eyes and offered his hand to help me to my feet.
I knew in that moment I had to make a choice. As I looked into his eyes I knew. I just knew I could trust him. I accepted his hand and only then realized how much pain my run added to my leg. After walking for a while I became somewhat numb to it. I watched my feet as I walked.
"Why?" I asked.
"Why what?"
"Why are you helping me?"
"Because it's the right thing to do. You'll figure it out. Also we were once their prisoners and don't want too many other people to be prisoners. We have been doing some rescue missions."
I didn't realize just how far we ran because we were only just now making it back to the truck. The dark haired one climbed in the back allowing me to sit in the front while the ginger one got behind the wheel.
"What are your names so I don't have to keep calling you the dark haired one and ginger one?"
They had a whole conversation in glance language. They included head jerks and shoulder shrugs. After a minute of exchange they finally came back to real conversation.
