Y/N's POV
Monday 8th October 1984My face was plastered all through Hawkins! My face. My face at the KitKat club. You see I was in the show Cabaret. I had just recently been cast as one of two main roles.
On the photo that was up on display throughout Hawkins was me in a large green coat, some purple underwear and a short blonde wig on top of my head. My fingernails were pained a light green but my makeup was the complete opposite, I was wearing a really light foundation covered with a setting powder to make me look sickly. My face was layered with a ridiculous amount of red and pink blusher on the apples of my cheeks. On my eyelids I wore purple eyeshadow with black glitter and some accents of green but not a lot. My lips were carved into a heart with the dark red colour layered on top.
That was the character of
Sally Bowles...

The green coat was a huge part of the story and it was my favourite prop or costume piece in the full production. It gave me a purpose and it made me look amazing while I strutted around in it.Cabaret was staring its run at the small Hawkins theatre in a few weeks and rehearsals were about to start. I had already met the cast but I had only really clicked with a few members. One of which being Cynthia. We had done a read through of the script and it was a lot different to what I remembered when I first watched the movie back when I was younger.
The main cast was shown in these little booklets that you got given when you walked into the theatre. They showed everyone in the cast and their characters. The main roles list read:Emcee played by Michal
Sally played by Y/N
Clifford Bradshaw played by Charlie
Herr Schultz played by Richard
Fraulein Schneider played by Donna
and
Ernst Ludwig played by DavidBut the cast also consisted of the Cabaret girls and boys who were under the category of ensemble and supporting roles. Their parts in the booklet read:
Rosie - Cynthia
Lulu - Karen
Frenchie - Jules
Texas - Mary
Fritzie - Tina
Helga - Tracy
Bobby - Jack
Victor - Joe
Hans - Chris
and
Herman - Daniel

You see, it was a pretty scandalous show, with costumes that didn't leave a lot to the imagination, in the final song, you had been told that you were just wearing underwear in the first read through. Quite literally nothing else! But in the movie Sally wears a black dress.
The thing is the story is quite sad and even if you saw it for the sexy side of it, you would either end up being touched by the story or absolutely traumatised. There was not any other feeling in the whole world to describe the emotion brought over everyone at the end of the show. Even the cast. Opening night was on the twenty second of October- really close to Halloween.
Rehearsals hadn't been easy either, they were long hours for days on end. Roughly about ten hour days; it doesn't sound like a lot but for the youngest person in the cast with an age of seventeen, it was a hell of a long day. The day routine consisted of: waking up, getting dressed, having breakfast, driving to rehearsals, doing the final touches of school work through the breaks in order to graduate, have a singing rehearsal, lunch break where I'd catch up on more work or run through lines and then we'd do a full run through and then we'd all finally go home. But when I get home, I flop straight onto my bed and I'm out like a light. All of they work and I'm doing the same long days for another two weeks!

Rehearsal day 5
Sunday 13th October 1984The sun shone in my eyes as I realised that it was that time of day again. Time to go to rehearsals. They are fun but they absolutely drain me. I looked at my alarm clock next to my bed and it read 8:23am. I still had roughly half an hour until my call time. So with that time I got myself ready I wore a pair of tights with a leotard and a small skirt with a baggy jumper to cover everything. My makeup was unnatural. I used bright colours and tried to copy her manipulate the makeup code for the cabaret cast and creatives and then I ate breakfast while watching my TV, a spooky Halloween movie-Psycho- was on the channel that I nearly scrolled past.
I mean Halloween was one of my favourite holidays but with me working on this show I can't really go out for the holiday. I hadn't even got a costume yet so it was pointless going out.
I wrapped up eating my breakfast and I sped out of the door with my bags and script in hand. We were told to be off script by today but I am mostly, I just need some lines prompting. My parents aren't too happy about me being in this show because of how scandalous yet historically accurate it was. I do not expect them to come and see me in it. I hope they don't to be honest- they'll only scold me.
Anyways
My car started and I drove for about half an hour until I made it into central Hawkins where I saw posters of me and Michal from my car window, our faces were used for promotional reasons in order to get people to come and see the show. I pulled into the parking spot that I had claimed as mine- this parking lot was right opposite the theatre. When I looked over the road where these posters were, I saw that someone was looking at the one of me. The boy was tall, taller than me. He had a brown mullet looking hairstyle and was wearing tight jeans with a shirt.
I swung my door open and hopped out of my car. My bags and script were in the back seat so I grabbed them and walked into the back entrance of the theatre, it wasn't like it was hidden but it's just the fact that not many people knew about it.
The boy looked over at me and looked weirdly shocked. His eyes widened as he pulled the poster of me off the wall of the building and shouted:
"Hey, is this you?"
"Yes! Are you coming to see the show." You said back.
"I might I'm not sure, can you get me and my friends some more fliers?" He asked as he put that one in his pocket.
"Sure!" I said as I walked into the theatre with my bags.
The theatre was old and not many people knew about it in Hawkins. Due to it being a new age, more people were going to the movies to see new releases rather than seeing live theatre and the arts.

I signed my name to say that I had arrived into my workplace and I made my way to the auditorium, the theatre had a small round stage in the middle of the room rather than a huge rectangular one.
"Hey guys is there any more posters of me and Michal, some guys just asked for some more?"
I asked our stage management team.
They didn't say anything but just pointed to the table next to them. On it there were hundreds of small prints of me and Michal in our rough draft costumes. I ran out of the theatre holding about ten fliers and I ran up to boy who was in the same spot I'd left him in.
"There you go." I said as I handed them to him.
"Thankyou, I'll give these to my friends im sure they'll end up coming to see it." He spoke slowly as he looked at me.
"Right I hope you come but I kind of need to go back to rehearsal for this show." You laughed as you walked away as the boy walked in the opposite direction.
I walked back into the theatre and sat in the auditorium.
The seats were located around the theatre with some having tables and the others being the dress circle and royal circle.
I met up with Cynthia and we sat at the little table close to the stage as our director came up onto the stage and said
"Guys, we are going to do a run through start to finish, no breaks or anything. We will have one lunch break but you can only go out to the toilet or eat whenever you are off stage. You can however watch the parts of the show if you sit here. Ok. Let's start with Willkommen. Break a leg!" And then she walked off stage and sat in a box located on the side of the stage.
Cynthia looked at me as we looked at the other cabaret girls sat around the auditorium, as we all looked confused.
But before we could say anything, the opening notes to Willkommen played and we all had to get into our opening Act One positions.
I started in the dress circle with my only line in this first song: 'Hello Darlings!' While all the other girls started around the stage to sing. Michal opened the full show due to him being the Emcee.
———————————————
We had done a full run through of the full show.
People were crying and laughing after my amazing performance of the title song Cabaret I was just happy to be going home and going to bed but then our director came back up on stage again and said
"Tomorrow we're going to get everything perfect then you guys can have two day free to do whatever you like." We all were excited yet worried and confused because we never get a day off.
"Why?" Charlie spoke from the royal circle. Everyone gave him a dirty look to tell him to shut up as we all wanted a day off.
Then our director spoke again. "That is because we are making your costumes and we'll need to tweak some things but Y/N, Michal and Charlie will have to stay a little longer on the first day back to do some more press photos."
A groan came from Michal but you just sucked it up. It was your job for the next few months and you had to accept it.
She finally let us all go home. TWO DAYS. TWO DAYS NO WORK. I was in heaven.
I walked to my car. Today we weren't at the theatre long. Probably around seven hours. Not as long as what we usually are- it felt more like a school day. As I got into my car, the radio came on and some new songs were playing. I liked these songs they were nice and they made me feel happy.
———————————————
It took me about forty five minutes to get home due to me living on the outskirts of Hawkins, when I got into my house, I changed into my pjs as quickly as I could so that I could snuggle up in my bed and get to sleep. It was only about five o'clock but more sleep I guess. But weirdly I couldn't stop thinking of the guy who I talked to outside the theatre. He was nice but he was also handsome. But he didn't seem too interested.
As soon as I made my way into my bedroom, I sank into my bed and was knocked out is quickly. A lot quicker than what normally happens.
And then I realised in my dreams that I had two days free and then I was about to try my whole set of costumes on with makeup and then I would turn into the character of Sally Bowles.
