RYLEE HANSON
tw: abuse
(narrative)Sasha was sprawled on my bed, watching her new crime doc, when I burst into the room. She barely glanced up, but the moment she caught sight of my face, she sat up, narrowing her eyes.
"Okay, why are you grinning like that? Did you win the lottery? Or did Nika do something swoon-worthy?"
I threw my bag onto the desk and flopped down beside her, burying my face in my hands. My cheeks were already burning, and I hadn't even said anything yet.
"It was so good, Sashy. Like, so good."
She tossed her laptop aside, fully focused now. "Start talking, Ry-Ty. I want details. All of them."
I peeked at her through my fingers, the smile tugging at my lips too big to contain. "We talked for hours. Literally hours. The coffee got cold, and neither of us cared. It was just... easy, you know?"
Her eyes widened, and she leaned in like she was about to uncover the greatest gossip of all time. "Okay, but what did you talk about? Was she funny? Did she flirt? Did you flirt?"
I groaned, my face heating up again. "I don't know! She made me laugh a lot. And she's so smart, Sasha. Like, every time she talked, I felt like I was learning something or just... amazed by how cool she is."
Sasha grinned, nudging me with her elbow. "Aww, look at you. Head over heels already. So, did she give you heart eyes the whole time, or was she playing it cool?"
"She was... I don't know, Sasha. She smiled at me, like, really smiled, and I just—"
I stopped, flopping back onto the bed and covering my face again.
"You melted. Admit it."
"Fine! Yes, I melted. Happy?"
She laughed, practically bouncing in place. "Extremely. Did you kiss her?"
My eyes flew open, and I sat up so fast I almost knocked her over. "No! It was just coffee. It's too soon for that, right?"
Sasha rolled her eyes. "Maybe, but you could've at least tested the waters. Did she lean in? Give you a hint?"
I bit my lip, my heart fluttering at the memory. "I walked her to her car, and we just stood there for a second. She said she had a great time and that she wants to do it again soon."
Sasha's jaw dropped, and she grabbed my arm. "She said that? Rylee, you're in! This is the greenest of green lights!"
I couldn't help but laugh at her excitement, though my own nerves were starting to creep in. "What if I mess it up? She's so... perfect. And I'm just me."
She smacked my arm lightly. "Stop that. You're amazing, Rylee. You're funny, you're talented, and you're probably the only person on this campus who can rock a hockey jersey and still look cute."
