Why is reading the best thing in the world? I just finished my sixth book this summer. Mom says that I read as fast as she used to. I guess I got my love for books from her. I'm in her office for the fourth day in a row just reading. Mom is gone a lot, mostly for work. She's a lawyer and a writer. I don't know how she does it; Take care of us and work.
Dad died when I was young. He was also a lawyer. They met in high school. The few memories I have with Dad are enough to know that he was the best Dad in the entire world. When he died it was just Mom — she was all on her own — but we made it back to the top and I'm grateful for everything she's done for Matthew and I.
I've been inside this house for the past week because of this stupid eye, it's starting to go away now which is good, I'll be able to go back out for my morning runs. I feel so lazy, I haven't done anything in a week, but I can no longer be mad at Caden after what happened in my room. I told him I'll give him a second chance so I can't hold a grudge.
I opened the camera on my phone to use it as a mirror. My eyes look better than before, so I guess I will be going for that morning run, except it's an afternoon run. I walked out of the office and saw Matthew sitting at the kitchen island with Caden.
"Hey Pais," Matthew says.
"What is he doing here," I ask, staring deeply at Caden.
"Nothing, he was just leaving."
I took my eyes off of him and ran up the stairs, closing my bedroom door with a slam. It's so weird seeing him after what happened, it sort of makes me anxious and I'm never anxious. I need to stop overthinking. I walked over to my closet to pick out some running clothes: I chose light purple shorts and a black tank top.
Outside, I was greeted by Caden who was in the middle of putting his helmet on. "Hey, Mystery girl."
"Hi..." I say very awkwardly.
"Where are you going?" He questioned.
"Just for a run." The air smelt moist, like it was about to rain again and the sky grew dark.
"I don't think that's a good idea, it's about to rain."
I rolled my eyes, I don't like people telling me what to do.
"I'm only gonna be running for a little bit."
As soon as I said this I felt a drop water on my nose, "fuck."
"Can I show you something?" Caden asks out of nowhere.
"What?"
"Just hop on," he held out his hand, offering me his helmet.
"Why should I go with you?" Even after our little meet up yesterday I still didn't trust him even though I'm not mad.
"Don't you like a little danger, Mystery Girl?"
I stood silent for a few seconds before sighing and taking the helmet from his hands.
He sat in the front of the motorcycle and I hopped on behind him. The starting of the engine startled me a bit which made me grip onto his shirt.
"You can hold on, I don't bite." After he said this we were off.
The rain has gotten a bit heavier but it's fine, it's not like I'm cold or anything.
Caden parked his motorcycle at the bottom of some random trail. I hate to break it to him but now is not the time to walk a trail. "Caden, what are we doing here?" I took off the helmet.
"No time for questions."
I crossed my arms and followed behind.
"Here. Take my jacket." He handed me his leather coat which left him bare with just his black shirt. The jacket was so big it almost went down to my knees, but I'm glad I have something to protect me from the rain. I was in shorts and a tank top, so it was about time he offered me his jacket.
