I've never really thought about Caden in a romantic way. He's always just been my brother's best friend, but one day all of that changes. Now let's take a few steps back to the past. The first time I ever met Caden was when I was thirteen years old, he was fifteen. My brother met him in the middle of fall, and invited him over. I was upstairs in my room until two voices entered the front door. It was odd considering Matthew always comes home by himself. I dropped my pencil onto my bed and walked out of my bedroom door. He came in with another boy. They ran up the stairs and flew past me, leaving me in only the dust of their tracks, until the mysterious boy looked back at me with a soft smile on his face.
I wanted to know who this mystery boy was, so I walked down the hall into Matthew's room where I saw both of them playing video games. "Paisley, get out!" Matthew yelled to me. I didn't listen to him; I walked further into the room. "Paisley, did you not hear me?"
"I want to watch," I responded. I went to the edge of Matthew's bed and leaned on it. The mystery boy was inches from me. "It's Paisley, right?" Mystery boy asked.
"Yes," my voice was higher than normal. Maybe it was because I was a bit nervous.
"Come sit right here. Want me to show you how to play?"
"Yeah!" I was excited. Matthew never asks me to play with him, so I'm glad Mystery Boy did.
"Caden, why would you ask her that? You're so annoying, Paisley," Matthew snarled.
Caden. Caden
"Don't be so mean, Matthew," Caden says.
Caden handed me the controller and explained what each button does.
I get one kill and Caden will cheer for me. How could a boy look this intimidating but act so sweet? His hair was short and dirty blond, he was quite scrawny for a teenager but tall. He was wearing a plain black shirt and blue jeans. His face had lots of birthmarks of all different sizes scattered all over and full, light pink lips.
When it was time for Caden to leave I remember being sad. I thought he'd never come back, but when he came back day after day, I soon realized that I will have a chance to be his friend.
Every day was the same routine, playing video games in Matthew's room. I think Matthew got used to the routine because he would come to my room and tell me that Caden was here; It was like he liked us getting along. I think Mom appreciated it too. The days Caden didn't come over were the days I wouldn't step foot in Matthew's room. We didn't argue on the days Caden wasn't there, it's just that the room felt empty without him, it didn't feel right. Even when Matthew asked if I wanted to play a game with him, I would refuse just for the sole reason that it was better when Caden was there.
After a few months, Caden stopped coming over. I would askf Matthew if Caden was ever going to come over again but he would always tell me that he didn't feel like it. The memory of Caden was slowly fading away day by day until one sunny summer day.
I've decided to try something new not involving the Sturniolo's. I've been working on this book since the beginning of the year, its not quite done but it has a lot of progress. I hope you all like it and give feedback to any of my works
