The horizon sparkled with hues of magenta, amber, and lilac. And gazing into the distance, she stood. Her auburn tresses fluttering in the wind, honey brown eyes taking in the familiar sight before her.
Carmen Kaslana.
A sight to behold, Stephen thought to himself. His heart skipped a beat at the thought that this person was in love with him. She began to turn, snapping him out of his reverie. He quickly dropped to one knee and fished out the small velvety box from his pocket. Or so he thought. To his horror, he grabbed at nothing but air.
"Stephen, I can't do this anymore."
"What do you mean, Car?" he asked, chocking out an awkward chuckle. Before swiftly standing up and performing a pat down on himself in search of the item.
"Let's break up," she smiled glumly and averted her gaze to the water below. Stingrays danced beneath the ripples, recognising the marine biologist. "I understand your desire to have a family, but I am physically unable to provide you with one."
"Carmen, listen, that's not an issue because I-" he blurted out before his head snapped to the side. Low and behold was the box, floating away from them.
"Stephen. My decision is final; I am moving elsewhere and starting anew, you should too."
Suddenly, the wind was knocked out of Stephen's lungs. He felt as if his heart had been run over by a steam roller, his chest heavy with tar. Familiar footsteps faded into the distance as he remained locked in a stupor.
The sullen inventor returned to his lab in a daze, not even reaching out to turn on the light. He made a beeline for the capsule that had been meticulously disguised as a table. He cleared the surface in one fell swoop; various trinkets and fragile apparatus shattered as they kissed the floor. Pulling the capsule's lip upward revealed a humanoid droid with ebony hair and honey brown eyes.
