Backstage (an inanimate insanity fanfic)

Hired?

I woke up in a cave. I look around, and I see a phone. "Hello there. I would like to ask you where we are?" They looked up from what looked like a pile of gems, and stared at me. "Hi." They said in a hoarse and slightly tired voice. "Would you like to introduce yourself?" I asked. "Sure, uhh-my name is Mephone. Mephone 4. And uhh... I'm the host of the reality show Inanimate Insanity." He said. "Well then, I am Mepad. Nice to meet you."

I slowly get up, my limbs are a bit sore. As I do, I start to hear voices and music coming from outside the cave. Once we both walk out, I can tell where the noise is coming from. there is a large hotel standing outside. About five floors from what I can see, and it's labelled Hotel OJ.

I overhear Mephone talking on the phone behind me, something about an assistant and Adam. "So Mepad, you are here because you were hired by Adam to work as my new assistant." I was caught off guard when he turned to me, so I almost fell. "Assistant for what?" I asked. "Well, as I have already told you, I'm the host of the reality show Inanimate Insanity, where the contestants compete for one million dollars." States Mephone. I admit, I would be surprised if this guy even owned a million dollars, he looks as if he would spend it all on cookies or something. What I mean by that is he would not be smart with the money.

Mephone explained his situation to me. Apparently he wasn't "satisfied" with his other co-host, and wanted to replace him with me. I do have sympathy for this other person and am confused why he is disliked by Mephone.

What happened next was like a blur. I was introduced to the contestants, and showed the votes of who was eliminated, just like Mephone asked me to. I also noticed that the contestants looked stressed, and were very anxious about the elimination. This confuses me, because it's just a fun little game show, right?

I also got to meet Toilet, who was the other co-host. He was quite unhappy to see that I was supposed to be his replacement, and he probably wants me dead at the moment. I don't think I like Mephone either, since during the challenge he was quite unconcerned about the health of one of his contestants. She somehow found herself on Mars, which meant that if she was there more then an hour, she would die and Mephone wouldn't be able to revive her. (also, what does he mean, revive her? can he bring people back from the dead or something?)

After the challenge was over, Mephone sort of just stopped being social and left. I tried asking where he was going and he said "To think of the next challenge."

To pass the time I decided to learn more about the contestants. Fortunately Fan, one of the contestants told (bragged to) me about how he was the show's biggest fan, (cheesy slaps his knee in the background) and that he had created a whole website with facts about the show, including the objects competing.

I also read about the first season, giving me a better understanding of my new career. The hotel from earlier belonged to OJ (Orange Juice), the winner of the past season. Taco was also in season one, but had disappeared after losing the last contest. Nobody knew where she was any more.

I decided to ask Pickle, a resident of Hotel OJ about Taco, since they were quite close in the first season. "Hello Pickle. I am new here, and would like to get to know everyone." I tried to be sincere, since this might be a delicate subject to talk about. "I have heard that you and Taco, a past contestant, were close friends and allies in the first season of Inanimate Insanity. I wanted to ask you more about her, since she is someone there isn't much information about."

He stared at me, and I could sense that he was trying to hide some kind of emotion. I can sense when there is feelings, but I can't describe or even understand them properly, since I am a robot.

"Uhh, I would rather not talk about... well- her." Pickle mumbled out in a slightly rude way, although not intentionally. "That is understandable. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I hope we didn't get off on the wrong foot, so let's talk about something else, as I would still like to get to know each other."

Notes: This one is short I just needed to start with something any ways please expect more angst I will make it much more enjoyable also there will be some chapters from Mephone's perspective.
