⚜ Inspiration Behind the Novella
The idea for this story came to me after reading the first book in the Powerless series. Blair Archer is primarily depicted through the perspectives of Kai and Paedyn, where she is often cast as the antagonist. However, I was intrigued by Blair's unique position within the royal court. Unlike the princes, the king's ward Jax, or Kai's sister Andy, Blair and Sadie were the only individuals who weren't members of the royal family. This left them vulnerable to the cutting remarks and mockery of those in power. Blair's apparent anger and hostility are, in part, her response to this relentless treatment.
Moreover, Paedyn isn't the only one in this story who experiences deep loss. Blair's grief over Sadie's death—a loss tied to circumstances far beyond her control—contrasts with the choices Paedyn and Kai had. Unlike Paedyn and Kai, Blair had no choices by the time of the final Trial, forced to obey the king's orders while seeking justice for Sadie.
This novella explores Blair's emotions, struggles, and motivations, aiming to reveal her as more than an antagonist—someone shaped by trauma, loss, and the need for survival.
