*AN: I know there is a time continuity error here, but in an effort to include stories from both Greek and Egyptian sides, we're going to ignore the space-time continuum and say that it's been two months since The Lost Hero*
~2 months later~
I drop my duffel bag in the entry hall of Brooklyn House and look around.
"Uncle Amos?" I call.
Khufu comes barreling toward me and launches himself into my arms for a hug.
"Oh, hi!" I grunt, struggling to hold him up.
"Agh!" He grunts, and instantly starts combing through my hair for a snack. His Laker's jersey smells like it hasn't been washed in a century.
"Yeah, I missed you too, buddy. Where's Amos?"
He leaps from my arms and points to the door to the library, which is slightly ajar."Agh! Agh!"
"Huh," I follow the baboon and find my uncle pacing his library, scrolls scattered on the floor and tables around him. He's mumbling to himself, pulling on his braided hair the way he does when he's worried.
"Amos," I say.
He jumps, startled by my presence. "You're here? Already?"
"Yeah, it's almost Christmas."
"I know," he mutters.
I look down at one of the scrolls. It's a copy of the writing from the Rosetta Stone. I'd recognize it anywhere.
"What's going on?"
"Your father," he spits out. "Is planning something stupid. Not just stupid. Idiotic. Dangerous. Life-altering."
"What?" I ask.
Amos looks me dead in the eye, and I can see through his blue-tinted round glasses that he's scared. "He's trying to summon Osiris, to bring back Ruby."
I blink. A million questions flood my mind. Ruby is the mother of my half-siblings, Sadie and Carter. I know she died, but I'm not sure how.
"Why would he do that? He's already banished. The House of LIfe is watching him! They won't let him do that, they'll imprison him, ,or worse, they'll-"
"He thinks he can do it, and he doesn't care about the consequences." Amos says. He picks up another scroll and sighs. "We have to stop him."
"We?"
"You're coming with me. He might listen if his daughter is there. Maybe you can help talk some sense into him. He respects you."
I'm even more floored now. Not once have I gotten the impression that my dad respects me. I've always been a sort of afterthought for him. He spends Christmas with Sadie and Carter every year, and comes to see me about once a year, on a random occasion, whenever he can sneak away from Carter. Usually, it's in the middle of the night, since Amos can't speak to him. I haven't seen him since I started sharing my time with Camp Half-Blood, so I'm not sure how he feels about that, but I doubt it would even faze him. Respect? No way.
Amos reads my expression incredibly well. "I know it doesn't seem so, but your father knows how powerful you are."
"I...." I shake my head. "I dunno. You sure you want me to come? What if Carter and Sadie-"
"I'm sure." He decides. "Pack your bags, kiddo. We're going to London."
