Chapter 11 Iceman's Funeral and Maverick is grounded

Cyclone: I can imagine what you must be going through right now, take some time off whenever you need the Admiral offered.

Maverick: I appreciate that sir, but there's no time the mission..

Cyclone: I'll be taking over the training from here with Wolf's help he interrupted him.

Maverick raised his brows.

Maverick: sir? he didn't understand what he just said.

Cyclone sighed leaning back in his chair.

Cyclone: look, we both know you didn't want this job Captain he pointed out.

Maverick: sir, they're not ready he tells him. 

Cyclone: well, it was your job to get them ready he argued with him.

Maverick: they have to believe that this mission can be flown sir he said.

Cyclone: and all you managed to do was teach that it can he accused him frowning.

Maverick: sir he tried to say but the Admiral was not listening anymore.

Cyclone: you're grounded Captain, permanently he made his decision leaning up from his chair to write on a piece of paper on his desk.

Maverick: sir he tried to get him to give him another chance.

Cyclone: that is all he pointed to the door. leaving no more room for arguments.

Maverick went out of the office.

Wolf having heard their conversation walked in without his Dad seeing him.

Wolf: Sir he got Cyclone's attention.

Cyclone saw Wolf.

Cyclone: Wolf, what can I do for you, Captain? he asked knowing where it was going.

Wolf: is it true? my father is being Grounded? he asked if he heard right.

Cyclone: Yes, as of now, Captain Mitchell is off the mission and no longer the lead Instructor; you are taking over in his place.

Wolf: sir Maverick knows the terrain better than us even me, you got to let him back in he tried to convince him.

Cyclone: Absolutely not. He's grounded, and my decision is final. He said he didn't want to argue with him, either.

Wolf: is that an order he said in defeat?

Cyclone: that's all Captain he nodded.

Wolf walked out of the office.

Maverick was at Penny's house.

Penny: I've heard, I'm sorry she apologized what are you gonna do?

Maverick: Ice is gone, what choice do I have? he looked at her.

Penny: you'll have to find a way back on your own she told him.

Maverick: no Penny, I'm out, this is over he said in defeat he can't do anything about it now.

Penny: Pete, if you lost your wingman up there you keep fighting you wouldn't just give up, those are your Pilots if anything happens to them you'll never forgive yourself she said.

Maverick shook his head.

Maverick: I don't know what to do he whispered.

Penny put her hand on his cheek.

Penny: but you'll find a way, I know you well she whispered back.
