There are those moments in your life that change everything. You get that ugly feeling in your gut as soon as it happens that it's going to never be the same again. Change can be funny like that. Sometimes it's not for better.

Well this was one of those revolutionary moments for me.

I watched helplessly from the sidelines as the car hurtled towards him.

I didn't do anything, I couldn't. By the time I took in the sight before me, it was too late. He was already hit, and the thick gooey substance that was blood began to pour onto the cement.

I was frozen. I couldn't believe what I'd witnessed.

But I had indeed seen what I saw. It had happened, and he was dead; I was so sure that he was dead. But then there was the twitch of an arm. It was so subtle I could've imagined it, but it was enough to set me in motion.

I ran for my life towards the body, his name screaming from my lips.
