'you're on the other side, as the skyline
splits in two.
i'm miles away from seeing you.
i can see the stars, from america.
i wonder, do you see them too?' - ed sheeran

i get off my flight with a heavy heart.
i try my hardest to brush off that unshakeable feeling
or heartbreak, longing and desperation.
i long to see my family again.
to see my sister's smile light up the whole room
to ruffle my brother's brown hair
to see my mother wash the dishes
to see my father's four-lined forehead.
i long to be back in high school,
with melodramatic girls
and cliche love stories.
but most of all,
i long to be back in your arms.
i long to see your green eyes and your dumb quiff that i find annoying.
i long to make fun of how you have an alpaca as your screensaver.
i long to mess up your room.
i long to do all those stupid little things we do that makes life less dull.
you have turned my life from a sketch into a watercolor painting
dabbing colors here and there to cover up all the insecurities.
i knew what love is because of you.
i knew how to be confident because of you.
and now
you're
you're gone.
now, i dream alone.
we may have an ocean between us,
but i know that we will survive through this distance that is keeping us
from each other.
i know, because
distance means so little
when someone means
so much.
