Chapter 1
Cigarettes, alcohol, the faint smell of the ocean; those were the things that Luna was aware of. It disgusted her, the fact that she no longer knew where she was. Well, of course she knew she was on a boat. But, she didn't know where it was headed. She didn't really care, she just wanted to be home. She listened for the sound of something, anything that would give her hope. Nothing. The only noises she was surrounded by were the voices of pirates, very evil pirates whom she did not like. She shivered as the memories rushed back.
“Well, well, well. Aren't you a beauty?”
Luna had been walking around the town, picking flowers for her mother who was sick. She had developed the habit of picking 7 flowers for her everyday after feeding her soup. She swung around, frightened by the sound of the rough voice. She lifted an eyebrow, curious as to why this stranger was talking her. He did not look familiar. He looked...almost pirate-like. He wore a big violet hat over his long black hair and he was wearing an odd red coat. But, the most interesting thing was his left hand. Well, there was no hand there...it was replaced by a hook.
“Who-who are you?” She asked, taking a step back. His cavity-filled mouth turned in to a huge grin, almost as if he was eager to tell her who he was.
“Oh, my love. I am Hook. Captain Hook.” He paused for dramatic effect, “Now... this might seem strange, but I am in desperate need of an assistant..” He sighed, glaring in to her eyes. Her heart thumped. She knew that at that point she should have ran, but she didn't. Her curiosity got the best of her.
“An assistant for what?” She asked, right hand on her hip.
“Oh, dear. You see, my home is not too far from here, it's quite an excellent place. But, I'm afraid that I lost my map...I have no idea how to get back home on my boat.” She should've known that this was a lie, but it slipped from her mind, “If you could show me towards a map, I would be ever so grateful.”
Luna pressed her lips together and motioned for him to follow her. She knew where there were some maps near town. If this was all that the man wanted, she was happy to oblige. But, she knew she had to be cautious; mother always warned her about strangers. They could never be trusted. She made her way down a little brick path, in between two apartment complexes, and out the other end which was much more secluded. She spotted a little concession store with loads of maps and made her way towards it.
“There's a couple maps in there.” She stated, motioning with her hand.
“Thank you.” He said, licking his lips.
“I'll be on my way. It was nice to meet you, er, Hook.” She stuttered. But, as soon as she was about to turn back around towards her home, she felt a strong hand cover her mouth and someone swinging her over their back. She had no time to think, so she began to scream and scream. But, it was no use. Hook's hands were too sturdy on her mouth. She tried to kick him and bite him, anything that could possibly make him let her go.
“Honey, there's no use. I've been through worse.” His hook-hand came close to her face and she cried out in terror. She couldn't tell where he was taking her, but she had a feeling it wasn't to her home. Tears slipped down her face as she took one last glance at the town she had always known. Ouch, she thought. She felt something sting her arm and she soon began to get dizzy, sleepy even. He had injected her with something. She fought to stay awake, but the injection got the best of her. Her eyelids slowly drooped and the last thing she saw was her mother, chasing after her, much too far away...
“Alright, love. It's time for dinner...” His voice brought her back to the present. His voice terrified her. She began to shake violently in to the corner of her little “prison cell”. He came closer, opening the door to the tiny cell.
“Stay away from me – I don't want to eat.” She spat, clenching her fists together. He moved closer, slowly grabbing her hand.
“But, this is our last dinner on the boat. We're nearly arriving to land.” He whispered, caressing her face with his hook. She closed her eyes, trying to pretend as if none of this was happening. She could feel his warm breathe on her neck and the smell of beer radiating off his clothes.
“Well, I'm not hungry.” She said between clenched teeth. He let out a sarcastic laugh, and violently grabbed her face with his one good hand.
“You will do as I say. You hear me?!” He yelled in her face, making her tremble even more.
“O-okay.” She let out, her tears on the verge of spilling. She could feel his hook trail down her back and his lips getting closer to hers. She shut her eyes closed once again, wishing that something would stop him.
“I own you now & I tell you what to do. So, kiss me.” He stated flatly. She did not want to upset him anymore, but she did not ever want to kiss that horrid face again. But, lately, he had been making her, every single day, every time he came in. He would demand her to please him, to do things she never would've thought would happen to her. He abused her in so many ways; sexually, verbally, physically. She had never known this kind of fear.
“Please don't make me again.” She whispered, a tear rolling down her cheek. He wiped the tear away, being a little more gentle. But, that was only an act. He didn't care about her feelings, he only cared about himself.
“Luna, don't make me throw you off the ship.” He threatened, gripping on to her wrist tightly. She was like a lost and scared chihuahua, she didn't know what to do. So, she did what she was commanded to do. She closed her eyes so that she wouldn't have any permanent images in her head and she pressed her lips on to his, tasting the bitter taste of beer. He pushed her against the wall and kissed her in such a furious manner that she wasn't sure if she would survive it this time. He grunted, entangling his fingers in her long, now dirty, brown hair. But, before he could do anything else, there was a loud thump up on the deck and the yelling of crew members. Hook quickly pulled back and his eyes widened, making his way towards the top of the ship. Luna waited until his foot steps faded and then she broke down in tears. For how much longer would this go on? She brought her knees up to her chest and she let herself sob, her tears making a puddle on the ground next to her.
She could hear faint yells still and the clashing of swords. Letting her curiousity get the best of her again, she slowly got up and tip toed towards the stairs, peeking in to the sunlight. She flinched at the brightness of the sun, for she had not been outside in approximately 5 days. Her feet seemed to have a mind of their own, taking her up the stairs quietly, as if not to disturb what was going on.
“Peter Pan was here?!”
“Y-yes, s-sir. B-b-but, it was momentarily. H-he was d-demanding to s-see you. He knows y-you have a prisoner. H-he knows.”
“IF YOU EVER SEE HIM AGAIN, YOU KILL HIM. YOU HEAR ME?! YOU KILL THAT KID.”
Luna wasn't sure what they were talking about. She had no idea who this “Peter Pan” was, but at that moment, his simple name brought her hope. He was, she decided, her only hope to getting out of this misery. Peter Pan. Her heart skipped a beat at the name. Though she didn't know him, she was already in love. Foot steps echoed closer towards her, snapping her out of her daze. She dashed back to her cell and threw herself in the same corner that she was before, pretending to still be crying. The foot steps got closer and they stopped suddenly, in front of her cell.
“Change of plans, there's no dinner.” It was Hook's voice. Luna forced herself to meet his gaze.
“Why?” She asked, uninterested.
“We've arrived.” He grinned. Luna stiffened.
“Where exactly are we...?” She dared herself to ask. She heard a slight sarcastic chuckle come from the man's lips.
“Well, honey, we're in Neverland.”
