“What are you doing here?” I questioned the most cliché question for this situation.
“Well, I got a scholarship here, and got assigned to this dorm.” She answered with her usual grin on her face, as she rested her bags on the hard wooden floor at her feet.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” I questioned her, while she closed the door behind her and flicked on the light switch which flooded light, at the speed of light into the room. Now I got a clearer view of her, she had her dirty brown hair in a bun, as she wore black shorts with a grey sweater with a black converse to match, while her huge hazel eyes bore into mine.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me that you owned a robe?” And a smirk makes it’s sly and playful ways onto her pink lips while she tried her best to restrain a laugh.
“Men own robes too.” I shot back while I held my hand to her like a police officer would. No one talk’s bad things about my robe expect me.
Is it just me or do I sound like a girl?
“I never said anything bad.” She defended herself, as her hands shot up in the air in surrender. Same old typical Haley, some things never change do they?
“I missed you.” She said as she had her arm outstretched running towards me into a hug. I held open my hands as she jumped into them, while her legs snaked its ways around my waist. It’s has been a long time since I hugged her or held her like this, or even smell her, surprisingly she still smells the same, with that Wonderstruck scent of hers, that became her signature since she’s always wears her Taylor Swift perfume. I didn’t mind the smell at all, it’s was a nice smell.
“Whoa! What’s going on here?” I heard Jack’s voice question as I heard more lights being switched on, probably by him. Haley jumped off of me and we turned to face Jack and Arena looking at us with confused faces.
“Wait, dude are you wearing a robe.” Jack questioned while in his eyes I could clearly see he was struggling to hold back his laughter.
“Not the point here!” I shot back defensively. “This is Haley; she’s our new dorm member and my sister.” I announced to the people as confusion seemed to disappear like a ghost from their faces.
Jack walked up to my sister and held a hand towards her. “A pleasure to meet you.” He greeted her as he bends down to kiss her hand which was in his.
“What’s up with you?” I questioned while I glared at him. As her brother I must play the brotherly overprotective role, right?
“Just wanted her to feel welcome.” I rolled my eyes at him, yup, I could already tell he like my sister.
“Oh, Haley, this is Jack and that’s Arena.” I informed her as I pointed at each of them so she can identify them, but I don’t think that would be hard, unless you know a girl named Jack and a boy named Arena.
“Nice to meet you all.” She said as she timidly waved her new dorm members.
“I’ll give you a tour.” Jack offered and Haley raised her hand at him in refusal. I saw that his features drooped in disappointment.
“Thanks but I think I can show myself around, the place doesn’t seem that big.” She tried to cheer him up when she saw his features fall also. I grabbed her bags and headed for her room.

Beep, Beep, Beep.
I groaned in annoyance as I heard the beeping of the bloody alarm clock, not something I’d like to hear especially after that late night last night. Honestly I never would have expected Haley to be our fourth dorm member, I was honestly hoping for that girl from yesterday to walk through the door. But I guess only cliché moments happen in books.
My eyes fluttered and I was immediately blinded by the bright light that entered my vision. I squinted my eyes numerous times until it was adjusted to the bright light. I rolled on my bed so I was facing the night stand and saw in red digits 7:00.
My eyes immediately widen in realization that I was going to be late for school. I quickly jumped out my bed like those people in the movies, and hurried to the bathroom to get ready for the day’s events.
I hurriedly grabbed my bag and literially bolted towards the door because someone, I’m not going to call names, Haley took forever in that bathroom, just like when we were younger, but now she takes longer! I was the last one to leave the dorm, and what made this situation worse was that my Music class was on the other side of the campus. And what’s even greater was that Haley had to wash her hair too.
Checking my watch, I only had five minutes to get to class, and I cannot be late, I’m here on a scholarship, and being late is not going to look good.
Running through empty halls it quite nice, especially when you’re late for a class, but then again the reason the hallways are empty is because I’m late.
“You’re late, Mr. Cullen.” She announced to the class when I opened the door panting in the process, don’t blame me this school is huge.
“I’m terribly sorry ma’am.” I apologized to her.
“It’s ok; please try not to be late again.” I nodded.
“Please have a seat next to Ms. Mason.” She informed me and pointed to a girl wearing a black sweater light blue jeans and a black converse, whose brown hair was all brought to her right blocking her face as it made a curtain. I walked towards the desk made for two people and sat on the empty chair next to the girl, while Ms. Long continued with class.
Today we were reviewing minor scales and major scales.
Throughout the entire class, I stole glimpses of the girl sitting next to me. I wanted to talk to her but she didn’t seem like the talking type, so I decided against asking for her first name. As I looked at her more and more, I realized something very important.
She was the girl from yesterday, the girl form the tree.
“Mr. Cullen.” Ms. Long called.
“Yes?”
“What is the answer?”
“Can you repeat the question?” as you can clearly see I wasn’t paying attention, I was too busy figuring out who the girl was.
“The answer is C major.” The girl sitting next to be answered. My first time hearing her voice, was like so angelic in a tomboy type of way, if that’s even possible, but either way, her voice is literal music to my ears.
The bell rang signaling that class was over and Ms. Mason was the first to get up. As she started walking away I grabbed her wrist gently making sure not to hurt her. She froze when our skins made contact. We stayed in this position for a while until she turned around to see her captive.
“Sorry, I didn’t catch your first name.” I told her when I released my grip on her hand. She looked at me as through she was contemplating on whether or not to tell me her name. After what seemed like countless centuries to me but to the real world only on average a minute, she finally told me.
“Skylar and yours?”
“Jake.” I informed her with a smile, something about her I felt drawn too, but I have no idea what. But I am determined to find out what. She was special, and I knew from that moment, that I needed to know more about her.
