I shouldn't have fallen in love,
Look what it made me become...I was mid-conversation with Saisha and her friends when something made me glance over my shoulder, like a sixth sense pulling me toward him. And there he was-Abhimanyu, standing across the room, but he wasn't alone.
A woman stood beside him, her arm casually linked through his, her body angled too close for comfort. She was stunning, exuding a confidence that bordered on arrogance, and the smirk on her lips made my stomach twist. It wasn't just the proximity that set me on edge-it was the way she looked at him, like she had every right to be there, like she was staking her claim.
For a moment, my heart betrayed me, squeezing tight as if to remind me of something I wasn't ready to admit.
He was mine, wasn't he? Or at least, I thought he was. But seeing her there, so at ease, so familiar with him-it was like a slap to the face.
I told myself not to react, not to let it show, but my traitorous eyes stayed glued to the scene. Abhimanyu's expression was unreadable, his eyes fixed on me for a moment too long, as if he was trying to say something without words. But that only made it worse.
She noticed me watching. Of course, she did. The smirk on her face widened, and then, as if to drive the dagger deeper, she leaned in closer, her arm tightening around his. My chest burned, but I forced myself to keep my expression calm, to not let the sting of jealousy take over.
This was nothing, I told myself. It didn't matter. But no matter how hard I tried to rationalize it, I couldn't ignore the way my stomach churned or the flicker of doubt that crept into my mind.
Who was she? And why did it seem like she belonged there, beside him?
Saisha's voice pulled me back to the present, her laughter echoing around me, but I could barely focus. My smile felt tight, forced, as I nodded along to whatever was being said. I didn't want to be the girl who got rattled by something so small, but watching her cling to him like that, so brazenly, made it impossible to ignore the unease spreading through me.
