The next morning, I sat in my office, the dim lighting casting long shadows across the room. Papers and files cluttered the desk, but my focus wasn’t on them. Instead, my mind was elsewhere—on her.

Aadhira.

Her voice, her touch, the way her eyes held that mixture of defiance and vulnerability—it consumed me. Last night, she let down her guard, even if only for a moment.

It wasn’t just her words that stayed with me; it was the way she said them, the raw emotion behind them.

The thought of anyone betraying her, hurting her the way she described, made my blood boil. I didn’t care who it was—family, friends, or enemies. If they’d hurt her, I’d find them, and they’d regret ever crossing her path.

I sat in my chair, swirling a glass of whiskey in my hand, my gaze fixed on the city skyline outside. The room was quiet except for the faint hum of the air conditioning, but my mind was anything but calm.

Rehaan entered, his expression somber, “I’ve found something about that abandoned mansion amidst the forest,” he began, breaking the silence.

I turned to him, setting the glass down with a soft clink, “Speak.”

He cleared his throat, “That mansion was owned by Ranvijay Roy Chaudhary,” he said.

My brow furrowed instantly, the name hitting like a bullet, “Ranvijay Roy Chaudhary,” I repeated, the weight of recognition settling in.

That was Aadhira’s father.

Rehaan nodded and continued, “After his death, the mansion has been abandoned for years. It wasn’t transferred to anyone, not even his children.”

The room grew colder as his words sank in. My jaw clenched, “Why wasn’t it transferred? With a legacy like theirs, every asset would’ve been accounted for.”

“That’s the odd part,” Rehaan replied, stepping closer. “There are no legal records of ownership beyond Ranvijay Roy Chaudhary. It’s as if the mansion was erased from the family’s history.”
