Krin Laine was running. Her frightened hazel eyes scanned the horizon for her attacker, which seemed to have disappeared in a matter of milliseconds. Her quiet surroundings were making her head spin. Her eyes scanned again, looking for any sign of movement.
A sudden whoosh of movement came from behind her. She turned and saw nothing. Her now soaking wet hair swished around as she frantically moved her head, searching for what she knew was coming. Another sudden swish of wind knocked her off of her normally stable feet.
Adrenaline ran through her body and she jumped up. Now high on an adrenaline rush, she sprinted down the nearest alley. She instantly regretted her mistake as she ran into the lonley pier, which unluckily for her, had no boats docking at the moment. Her lungs were now begging- no, screeching- for air. She quickly gave in, regretting that she hadn't taken the open opportunity of cross country in high school, and leaned into a tiny crevice in the building, thinking that the attacker would pass her up; The moonlight was the only light in the entire area.
Yet even she knew that there was a huge chance she wouldn't make it out alive; her breathing was heavy, almost choking-like, and was sure to give her away. Then again, the rain might cover it; it was pounding very hard on the ground.
She regretted moving to this stupid town; everything had seemed so strange when she had arrived, yet she had thought of it not.
Her thoughts moved to the girl she was sworn to protect, Lorah Hadley. Her best friend. She would never get to tell her, warn her of the danger coming soon.
Her powers had weakened so much when she had moved here. If she had had them now, she wouldn't have been in this situation.
Yet she had one last trick up her sleeve. Krin concentrated on sending her powers away. Hopefully she had succeeded.

A gush of wind. Krin opened her eyes to see herself being thrown. She fell into the hard stack of boxes and then heard a blood-curling scream, which she then realized was her own. Her arm fell slack and pain riddled through her body.
A excruciating burning sensation went through her body and she realized slowly that she had been poisoned. Her head lollied to the side and she saw the cause of the pain. Her wrist was bent in an awkward way, bleeding profusely and her arm was clearly in a wrong position. Her mouth became dry and her body heated up to what she thought was at least one hundred degrees. Her brain was fuzzy and she couldn't think straight.
The dark silhouette of her attacker appeared.
"You will not warn her." The silky, velvety female voice cackled. "Don't worry. I'll tell her for you. I know, how generous of me."
And with that, Krin blacked out.
