No pain came to her. Maybe she had died already; maybe she didn't need to feel pain. She slowly opened her eyes to see a girl looking her straight at her.
Her eyes hadn't needed time to focus, which surprised her, as they usually had. Her body felt limp and her head was throbbing. "Why didn't you tell me you were a seer?" Elizabeth asked from somewhere behind her.
The girl who she now recognized as Dawn spoke, "She's still in that state; her eyes are still green."
"I was sworn to protect someone." Krin said randomly, in a matter-of-fact-ly tone. "They are probably dead now."
Her body was limp like a rag doll and her head was fuzzy. Her eyelids felt heavy.
"She might even still be in the vision or memory." Said Dawn as if she hadn't heard her.
Her head tilted slightly to the side as Dawn spoke. She couldn't understand. What were they talking about?
Krin awoke from her daze as a sudden thud hit the floor.
Elizabeth's body flew into view. "Why didn't you tell me you were a seer?"
Krin was too confused to answer. It felt as if she was drugged. Her eyebrows knitted together.
"Seer?" She asked.
"Don't ask too many questions and not so urgently." Said Dawn's voice. "Any human would have fainted, so she's disoriented. Give her time."
Dawn kneeled in front of her and put her hands on her shoulders. "Do you remember anything? Why didn't you tell Elizabeth you were a seer?"
A rush of remembrance ran through her body and she remembered everything. She nodded and said solemnly, "The power was supposed to be passed on to the girl I was sworn to protect, Lorah, so she could protect herself. Yet the connection was blocked or she could've died and tried to send it back. The powers could've also rebounded back to me due to me not dieing."
Their eyes widened.
"We'll talk about this later, okay?" Elizabeth said, her lips in a thin line. "For now, we'll introduce you to everyone."
Krin nodded and smiled, still a little dizzy, and proceeded to get up. After succeeding in her task, she headed with Dawn and Elizabeth.
*
"This is Eric." Elizabeth said, gesturing toward her husband, who smiled and shook her hand firmly.
"Guess we never got to welcome you to our home." He said, quite sincerely.
Dawn smiled from ear to ear and said, "You didn't. I'm still giving her the welcome tour."
She grabbed my arm. "She's mine to show around."
The family smiled curiously at Dawn, yet continued with introduction.
"I'm Andrew." Said the dyed hair brunette boy cheerfully. "I am now about to speak for everyone when I apologize for whatever my sister does to you."
Dawn's face went slack suddenly. "It's not like I'll hurt her."
"I wouldn't count on that." He said, winking at Krin. "She says that every time. Every. Single. Time. I still haven't gotten over what happened at the-"
"Forget that. I'm more mature than I was then." Dawn waved her hand dismissively.
He was about to retort, yet Dawn quickly cut him off. "Well, we really should be getting to the tour, newbie." She clamped her hands around Krin's shoulders and Krin instantly agreed with her.
"Not fair!" The boy, Andrew, cried.
"Come back down in ten minutes!" Elizabeth cried after them as they departed gracefully up the stairs, then lead her husband towards the kitchen.
*
The house was surprisingly big, as Krin had thought it wasn't possible to fit so many rooms in one cabin-like house.
"So," Dawn started. "This is my room."
She opened the door that lead to her bedroom, which was down the hall to the right from hers, and reaviled the mystery behind. Dawn's room was light green with panda stickers on the walls. Her bed was made nicely with bunches of adorable stuffed animals on it and the clothes drawer was almost dust-free.
"We'll decorate yours soon." She said as Krin stood in the middle of the room, gawking at Dawn's amazing room.
"Mine?" Krin turned to her and raised her eyebrow.
"Uh... Sorry, I thought you were staying." Dawn said, a little embarrassed. "I don't really have another girl to talk to. Elizabeth's nice and all, but it's just.."
"I understand." Krin said; and she meant it.
After showing Krin the bedrooms, Dawn decided to show her something big.
Krin was surprised just looking at the old towering doors, but she wasn't expecting the inside. The doors open to reveal the biggest library she'd ever seen.
"Whoa.." Said Krin, walking into the largest room, gawking at all the books.
"I know," Dawn said, closing the door and then walking over to a high window, flew up to it, and closed the blinds. "It's amazing, isn't it?"
Krin nodded, still dazed. "Are there any books on seers?"
Dawn nodded, "Only a few." She flew across to a far wall and then another, then brought out about five books that looked ancient before flying down to Krin. She lead Krin to a table in the middle of the room that Krin hadn't noticed before.
Dawn spread out the books on the table. Krin looked at Dawn and then said, "How do you fly like that?"
Dawn looked up. "Anyone can. Yet since your so young, as a vampire, you wouldn't know. I can teach you later." Dawn then went back to the book she was looking at.
"Puh-lease," a voice said from above. A body whooshed down in front of Krin, who's head urgently flicked up, and then rose to expose the person. "Dawn, you couldn't teach a fish to swim."
Dawn didn't even look up. She rolled her eyes. "Go away,  Andrew."
Andrew jumped onto the table. "Why should I listen to you, lil sis?" He strutted down the table teasingly, as if his legs has mucle spasms and moving them crazily.
Dawn still didn't look up, yet she shook her head, moving her bangs slightly around her face. "Pay him no attention, Krin."
Dawn handed her a book named, Rare Ancient Powers, and told her to turn to page two hundred twenty four.
Krin did as she was told and found the page that read, Seers.
"Seers are people who can see present, past, and future. Usually they are girls, it is rare that men get the trait, which is usually passed from mother to daughter. The women ratio is one to every five hundred people. The men ratio is one to every nine hundred people. If they lose their memory, it is usually returned by their powers. Their visions are very vivid, even if they haven't happened yet, and for seers, the most rare type of vision for a seer to see is the past. They have very unusual eye colors when in visions and sometimes in real life, which is usually how people tell. Normally, seers are used to tell others whether their enemies will succed and are hard to find, due to them being so rare."
"There's only one paragraph." Krin said.
"Seers are rare and hard to find." Andrew voice spoke from behind her; she turned wildly to see him. He didn't even seem to notice he'd scared her. "It only makes sense that they wouldn't have a lot of information."
Dawn smiled at Krin, "Guess we have a lot to learn."
*
After the tour of the house, they were walking down the hall when Dawn offered to take Krin to the mall.
"I don't know." Krin replied. "I don't want to intrude."
"It's completely fine. Besides, you need some pajamas." Dawn said.
Andrew caught up with them. "Also, you have to stay. I heard its supposed to snow pretty hard tonight."
Krin still felt like she wasn't going to stay. "I thought vampires don't sleep."
"No," Andrew said. "We don't have to sleep. It's different."
"What about Elizabeth and Eric?" Krin asked. "Will they mind?"
"Probably not." Scoffed Dawn. "Besides its only, like, five o'clock."
"Neither of you can drive a car, right? How are we supposed to go?" Krin asked, hoping to push the thought of going out of their mind.
"Ever heard the myth about how vampires can run fast?" Andrew asked, clearly amused by her question.
Krin understood, and instantly felt dumb. "That's true? How fast can we run?"
Dawn plopped into her hands; a big jacket with a hood to block out the sun and some longer socks that covered her ankles.
Then, Dawn laughed, probably at Krin's stupidity. "You don't know? Well, you're about to find out."
*
Krin still didn't know how fast she was going as she ran into the icy forest. A cold breeze was rushing through her hair and she didn't understand how she could be so slow compared to her new "siblings".
Finally, five minutes away from the mall, they stop. Surprisingly, she wasn't sweating or in any way tired.
She realized that they were still in the forest and looked at her friends for an explanation.
Dawn turned to her, "We forgot to warn you. Since you're a vampire, you won't be able to handle the smell of blood as well as us."
Krin felt her face go cold, "What can we do to prevent it?"
"Nothing. We'll just have to keep an eye on you." Dawn said. "Do not leave our side for anything, understood?"
Krin nodded, feeling her face flush. "Okay."
Dawn locked arms with Krin while Andrew guarded them. Stepping through the brush of the woods, they headed toward the mall entrance. Krin instantly was slapped with the smell of human blood. It was the most intoxicating smell she'd ever smelled.
Krin calmed herself, yet as she entered the store, the smell became too much.
"You know what you guys?" Krin said, wearily. "I'll just stay out here."
They sat her down on a seat next to the first store then went headed inside. "Make sure you buy some good clothes! My favorite color is navy blue!" She called after them.
She really hoped she wouldn't see someone she knew.
She sighed and brought a water bottle full of blood to her mouth. She took a short sip and waited for however long.
Finally, after moments of waiting, Dawn and Andrew came out of the small store. Dawn held out a few small bags towards her and shook them lightly.
She looked at the clothes. They were pretty good; something she would buy anyway. The black jeans matched perfectly with the spaghetti strap frilly-from-top-to-bottom navy blue shirt and there was a few more things: a few jackets, dress, shirts and jeans, along with leggings and tights with some flip flops.
"I can't let you guys buy all of this!" Krin exclaimed.
"It's fine." Said Andrew and Dawn in unison. "Besides, You're a newbie. You gotta start somewhere."
Dawn gasped suddenly. "We forgot your pajamas!"
Dawn and Andrew turned to enter the store once again.
"I'll stay here." Said Krin, when they asked her if she wanted to go.
Krin took another sip of blood to control her thirst. A jolt of energy went through her veins. Her hand gripped onto the bench urgently as she felt a thud next to her.
"Hey, its you! The girl from school!" Said a voice. The ginger haired girl looked up to see a brunette boy around her age sitting next her. Instantly, her hood fell off her head due to a cool breeze that had come. His skin was tan as if he was always at the beach and his eyes were a deep brown. He raised an eyebrow.
"Uh... Yeah, its me." Said Krin hesitantly, putting her hood back on due to a burning on her face.
"What are you doing all the way on the outskirts of town?" He asked, eagerly.
Maybe they had been friends?
Krin looked at him confused, and raised an eyebrow at him. "Outskirts?"
"You don't know?" He asked still smiling cheerfully.
Krin shook her head hesitantly. "Um," How does she put this? "I kinda got into an accident, and my memory's still a bit fuzzy. A family's hosting me until I get back on my feet."
"Oh." Said the boy. "Well, in case you don't remember, I'm Kaeden Realing and I go to your school. We talk sometimes."
The boy seemed so familiar. "You do seem familiar but, I'm sorry, I don't really remember you."
"Your memory's really been wiped, hasn't it?" Kaeden didn't let her answer before speaking again. "That's fine. When your memory comes back, you'll come visit, won't you? Here, I'll even give you my number..." He pulled a recipient out of a small bag that Krin hadn't noticed before and scribbled his number across it.
She took it and put it in her pocket. "Thanks."
He looked behind her and murmured something under his breath. Krin looked around to see other guy waving towards them. His eyes widened as he saw her and he called Kaeden over urgently.
Krin turned back to Kaeden, who was already standing.
"I gotta get going." He said in a dazed, disappointed tone. "I'll see ya around."
And with that, he walked around the corner.
As soon as he left, her throat stung like fire. She quickly coughed and gulped down a few gulps of blood, which stopped it amazingly fast. She sighed in relief and released her grip on the bench.
"Who was that?" Said Dawn, excitement filling her face, coming around the corner.
Krin didn't answer, yet said, "You were eavesdropping! Why?"
"Who was that?" Dawn repeated.
"A guy from school, Kaeden Realing." Krin answered, standing up so they could leave. She readjusted the hood on her head.
Dawn seemed dazed; her eyes glazed over and she looked at Andrew nervously. She handed Krin another bag hesitantly.
The bag contained about three pajama pants and shirts that were different colors. One was navy blue, the other was red, and the other was gray and had owls on it.
"This is good." Said Krin, smiling.
"Good." Answered her two friends, though one was slightly dazed.
