Before you start reading, I'd like to share the perspective this story comes from.
As a child, I was always imaginative and creative. I would craft characters and invent entire worlds and lore from the simplest toys I had. I was deeply fascinated by the realms of fantasy and science fiction, which offered me an escape from the harsh realities of life.
When I was in 4th grade, I wrote a short story that was harshly ridiculed by my own family. That experience deeply hurt me and, I believe, silenced my inner artist. Since then, I've avoided storytelling, feeling blocked and disconnected from that part of myself.
Recently, I came across Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way. It guided me in revisiting my past and understanding the pain and creative block that stemmed from those childhood experiences. Through the practice of morning pages, I began reconnecting with my creativity, and to my surprise, I started writing these stagnant ideas and imagination over the years. That's how this novel was born.
This piece is my love letter to the child within me—the one who dreamed up worlds and characters but was too afraid to share them. When you read this, you're seeing the perspective of that broken child. These worlds, characters, and imaginings have been nearly three decades in the making.
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I have enjoyed creating it. And as I continue writing and completing it, I hope me and my artist child both find healing and peace. I hope you do, too.
With love,
LeonRanzy
