Stood on the cliffside

☆The bell on the café door tinkles softly, signaling my arrival.
Inside, there is the usual chaos of the morning: the buzz of conversations, the clinking of cups, and the strong aroma of coffee filling the air.
My friends are already sitting at the corner table, with a mix of tired and tense expressions.
"Finally!" exclaims Pope, moving a stack of papers from the center of the table. "I thought you weren't coming anymore."
"I got held up," I snort. "Did you find any clues?" I ask hopefully.
I notice people's expressions and murmurs. It's been a day since the rumors and still nothing, seems to be the favorite topic of all the Outer Banks.
Kiara leans forward, her usual enthusiasm barely restrained. "Last night, I read the article several times. The domain is anonymous, but the writing... doesn't it remind you of someone?"
"Exactly" JJ adds, frowning. "It has that passive-aggressive style that reminds me of only one person: Rafe."
"Hmm, I wouldn't be so sure about that... Rafe Cameron would never write nasty things anonymously. Rather he would say them to my face" John B exclaims doubtfully, shaking his head. "Rafe is not that devious."
"Then who? Because it's clearly someone who knows Madison. They knew enough to make her look bad, and it's no accident."
I bite my lower lip, trying to hide my agitation.
"Rafe or not, we need to find hard evidence, not supposition" Pope cuts in.
He's right, without evidence we can't accuse anyone.
"I asked the newspaper people if they knew anything... They don't know anything. Whoever wrote that article must have acted at night so that no one could arouse suspicion" exclaims John B.
"But what if he had been planning this for days, if not months? I mean, it's weird that in one serious he managed to write the article and publish it right away" Kiara interjects.
"The fact is that on the computer I couldn't even find the source, it seems untraceable. Whoever did this must be someone with effective tools and lots of brains" Pope exclaims.
"I remain of the opinion that Rafe is the culprit in all this theatrics." says JJ.
What if it really is Rafe?
At one point a young boy arrives, positioning himself just behind our table.
The boy is tall, with disheveled blond hair and a vaguely familiar air. He wears a worn leather jacket and distressed jeans, as if he has just arrived from a long journey.
He carries a simple black backpack. Something red comes out of it, but I can't quite make out what it is....
His gaze immediately falls on me. A chill runs down my spine.
"Madison? Are you all right?" asks John B, noticing my sudden silence.
I shake my head. I can't take my eyes off the boy.
The Pogues, seeing me caught looking at something, also turn around and look at the boy.
"It seems like the first time I've seen him here on the Outer Banks" Pope says, studying the situation.
