A New life

chapter 5

I woke up in my own bed... Strange cuz I thought I slept over at Kyle's house..
I could smell the sweet scent of pancakes wafting through the house, that means Duane is probably making pancakes! Yay!! I ran downstairs into the kitchen and froze when I saw mom there at the griddle, flipping pancakes. There was bacon sizzling on the stove and my mouth watered.

"Mom??? " I whispered, but I guess she heard me as she replied, "Yes, Abby?" Before I could speak another word, dad came in wearing shrubs And throwing his coat on.

"Mornin baby blue" he said to mom before kissing her on the cheek.
That's his nickname for mom, by the way. "Morning, my beautiful Abby Abs!" he smiled at me before grabbing a pancake And a strip of bacon before going out the door.

"I swear that man works too hard" mom giggled, shaking her head. "Where's your brother? He's taking you to school today!" "But, he's 19 mom, he's graduated." I said, confused. Mom laughed. "Honey, he's 17 and you're 15. Now hurry up! You're gunna be late for your first day of sophomore year!!" mom clapped her hands and yelled for my brother.

What the hell is going on!?

I woke up suddenly to a load clap of thunder. I screamed, and someone moved beside me, which caused me to scream again.

"Abby! Baby, calm down." he grabbed me and held me in his arms while stroking my hair gently. I cried silently in his arms. "I miss my mom, and my daddy! Why did this happen to me Kyle??? Why couldn't I have just died.. Instead I missed 2 years of my life unconcious In a hospital bed!!" I cried, shaking violently.

"Shhh, it's ok sweetheart. I know it hurts now but it'll go away, I promise. Everything happens for a reason" he cooed to me.

"Well I wanna die.. I can't live without a mom or dad! They aren't gunna see my graduation or my 18th birthday.." I sniffled and wiped my eyes.

"I know, baby. Don't worry it'll all be ok. You're strong just like your mom and you can get through it"

We pulled up next to the DMV and I was suddenly nervous..
Kyle grabbed my hand next to me and said "ready to get your license?" I nodded, gulping down the lump in my throat. I was probably gunna be as bad as my mom at driving.

We got out and walked to the front, there was surprisingly no line here, just a few people in the chairs waiting for their numbers to be called. I gave the person at the front desk my birth certificate, permit, and insurance card and she gave me a clipboard with a bunch of papers on top. I sat down with Kyle and filled out the info fairly quickly and gave it to the lady up front and she gave me the number A23. About 20 minutes later they called my number and a man led me to the back door. I showed him where Kyle's car was, as he was letting me use his car to test with. He checked my blinkers, wind shield wipers, tires, and bumper and got in the car. We pulled out and I maintained my speed of 40 mph.

Finally, after stopping at a place for the tester to eat we pulled into the DMV and I parked kinda crooked in the coned parking spot. I was in the lines at least and finally he said "you passed! Congrats! Go up to the front desk and they will take your picture and hand you your license. I said my thanks to the man and excitedly ran up to Kyle.

"I passed!!" I squealed And he pulled me into a big hug.

I went up to the counter and the lady told me to stand in front or the white flap and then took my picture. I was smiling widely and she gave me my paper copy. "The real one should come in the mail in about 20 days" she said to me and with that me and Kyle left the dressed DMV.

My mom gave her car to me, it was a blue Chevy pickup truck! Of course I was gunna paint it pink, but it'll do for now! I couldn't wait to start driving.

"Kyle?" I looked over at the handsome face of my amazing boyfriend. "Yea?" he looked over at me, briefly taking his eyes off the road. "I love you!" I smiled at him, resting my hand on his. He smiled that gorgeous smile and said, "I love you too Abigail"
