Hello! So this is the first part of my fanfiction. I felt the need to add a new character to make it just a tad bit different than the show. You'll learn more about Kaysie and her backstory later on. I hope you like it!
~Kaysie's P.O.V.~
I opened my eyes, sleep falling onto my cheeks. I attempted to stretch out, but realized I was being restrained by a pair of arms. I looked to my right and saw that Carl was embracing me, as usual. His eyes were lightly shut, but I could tell that he was holding back a smile.
"Let me up, my shift in the guard tower is in 15 minutes." I groaned. He giggled, but straightened his face quickly after. "I know you're awake, fuckin' faker." Carl pursed his lips, and squeezed his eyes shut, looking constipated in the process of holding back laughter. "You little shit!" I giggled and attempted to push him away. This only made him pull me closer, and embrace me tighter. I alligator death- rolled out of his arms, and flipped upside down, leaving my bare feet in his face.
"Ugh, nasty! Why can't you just love me?" He pouted as he shoved my feet away from his face.
"Because-" I jumped off the bed, pulling my tan army pants onto my legs. "It is my duty to keep our beloved Alexandria safe from the dangers that lie beyond the walls."
Carl laughed at the drama in my voice, "Mhm yes, excuses, excuses." He got up from the bed, and pecked me on the lips. I turned, tucking my white, stained t-shirt into my pants, and left the bedroom without saying a word.
Halfway down the stairs leading to the first floor of the house, I was stopped by Carl's excited voice behind me. "Wait... am I still meeting you up there around 7:30?"
I chuckled, and continued walking down the stairs. "Whenever you want, Mr. 'Get Some'." Carl sighed, and walked off into the bathroom.
Upon arriving in Alexandria, Carl and I were very attached to each other because of the gruesome horrors we faced the past few years. Rick thought it would be cruel to separate us into different bedrooms, so he allowed us to share a room. There was just one rule; the bedroom door must remain open at all times while both Carl and I were in there, for obvious reasons. We still found our ways though, normally messing around up in the guard tower while everyone else was doing their morning tasks on the ground.
I turned the corner at the bottom of the stairs, and was startled by a figure in front of me. Without looking at who it was, I grabbed the dagger from my belt and held it up. Stepping into the light, Rick raised his hands, and gave me an amused face as I returned the dagger into its leather pocket.
"I'm going to pretend like I didn't hear that." Rick pointed to the stairwell where Carl and I had just talked.
"Good" I shrugged, and walked into the kitchen to grab one of the muffins that Carol had made for us the day before, Rick following behind me.
"I'm keeping an eye on you two, we don't need another baby-"
I cut him off before he could finish that sentence, "I thought you were going to pretend like you didn't hear our conversation?"
Rick went to finish his sentence, but paused, thinking. "Okay, you're right." He chuckled, backing off.
I hopped onto the granite countertop, dangling my feet. "Are you still going to talk to Deanna about setting up more watch towers today?"
"Yeah." Rick replied, leaning up against the refrigerator and looking down. We stayed in our spots in the kitchen for about 30 seconds without talking. It was probably awkward silence in Rick's eyes, but I liked it. In a world of violence and nightmares, these quiet moments were rare, and should be treasured.
"Well," I hopped down from the counter and tore a piece off the chocolate muffin, "I should be getting to my, erm...shift, in the guard tower." Rick nodded slowly and I popped the piece of muffin into my mouth, walking out of the kitchen and to the front door.
~Rick's P.O.V.~
Kaysie walked out of the kitchen and a few moments later, I heard the front door open, then get shut. I stood up against the fridge, thinking about whether or not I should have a talk with Carl about what I heard on the stairwell. My eyes glanced over the clock on the stove top. It was 10 till, and I had a few hours until my meeting with Deanna. This talk with Carl could probably wait until this evening, what I really needed to do was walk the wall to check for any signs of forced entry.
After making myself a cup of coffee, I left the house and started over to the main gate. The cool morning air bit at my bare face, and the January frost crunched under my boots as I walked over a patch of grass between the street and the sidewalk.
I looked down the street, and saw Michonne coming towards me, about 10 yards away. Her face had a look of worry and anger on it. She picked up speed as she neared me, I thought she might run into me, but she made an abrupt stop about 3 feet in front of where I was standing.
"The gate," She furrowed her eyebrows and glanced behind her, "It was found wide open this morning, but no walkers had gotten inside the walls."
I took a deep breath, thinking about who would have left Alexandria this early in the day. "Sasha. Have you spoken with her?"
"She was gone before the gate was left open, Daryl too." She paused, looking around to see if anyone could hear us. Seeing that everyone was still inside, she continued, "This could be someone leaving the walls, or someone breaching them."
"I want someone on perimeter watch, and the buildings need to be checked. No one leaves Alexandria until it has been searched over. Twice." I said as soon as Michonne had finished what she was saying.
"I'll go speak with Kaysie in the tower, tell her to be on the lookout inside, and outside of the walls, you should probably go see Dianna about what she thinks of this." Michonne said quickly.
I nodded, and walked past her in the direction of the gate.
~Michonne's P.O.V.~
On my way to the guard tower, I stopped by the Grime's house to inform Carl on what was going on. After knocking on the door and waiting a few seconds, I heard footsteps nearing. The door swung open and Carl stepped outside.
"Hey, everything okay?" Carl asked as he saw the worried look on my face.
"The gate was left open this morning, and there could be an intruder inside the walls, I just wanted you to keep an eye open for anything..." I paused to think of the right word, "Suspicious. I'm going to the guard tower to tell Kaysie." I turned to walk off the porch, but Carl replied.
"I was just headed up there actually, maybe I could help? Two guns are better than one." He nervously smiled, I could tell something was up.
"Why were you going to the guard tower when Kaysie's shift just started?" I tilted my head suspiciously.
"Well um, I was just going to see if she needed any help with anything, you know?" Carl shut the door and walked down the street with me.
"Carl, I'm not stupid, I know why you wanted to go up there. That's Kaysie's shift though, you can't distract her from guarding the walls, it's an important job."
Carl scowled and changed the subject before I said anything else. "Yesterday my Dad said Carol would watch Judith today, did you see Carol today? Are her and my sister safe?"
"Yes, as soon as I found out that the gate had been open, I went to see if she was okay with the baby, and I told her to keep to the upstairs bedroom until we got things sorted out."
"Okay, thank you." Carl said quietly, and we walked in silence until reaching the tower. I waited for Carl to start up the stairs, but he motioned for me to go first. At the top, Kaysie was looking through her binoculars towards the east wall.
"Kaysie," She jumped a little and turned around, not expecting me. I told her about the gate and how she needed to be on lookout on either side of the wall, she nodded and started looking down at the perimeter. "Carl, you can stay up here and keep a look out too, but that is all you two will being doing up here today, nothing else, you got it?" Carl smirked and nodded, I left the guard tower to begin checking the buildings for any signs of intruders.
~Carl's P.O.V.~
Kaysie stood looking out into the woods beyond the wall, a discouraged look on her face.
"Don't worry about any intruders, if there are any, we'll find them." I said reassuringly.
Without looking up from her binoculars, Kaysie replied, "It's not that I'm worried about."
"What is it then?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.
"See that tree over there?" Kaysie pointed to a tall maple sticking out from the firs, I nodded. "A flock of crows were just spooked out of it, normally when they're spooked by walkers, they'll land back down on the tree, this time they flew away, and landed in a tree a good 90 yards away."
"So you're saying that something other than a walker is out there?"
"Yep"
"Huh, yeah cause why would Daryl and Sasha make enough noise to scare off the crows like that?"
She didn't answer my question, all she said was "I sure hope they're okay, Carl." I wrapped my arms around her and rested my chin on her head.
"Im sure they are, you know how responsible they are. They wouldn't do anything stupid." At least that's what I hoped. I knew that Daryl was fine, but I didn't know about Sasha. She had been acting strange lately... skittish.
"Do me a favor and make yourself useful." Kaysie commanded. "Grab that M24 and watch the perimeter." I did as she said but not without sneaking a kiss on her cheek before I went to grab the rifle. We stood watching over Alexandria for a few hours, talking about stupid things, goofing off, then getting back to our job. Kaysie's shift up there was everyday from 7- 10 in the morning, then Sasha took over.
"Hey what time is it?" Kaysie asked, looking out at the gate. I looked down at my watch.
"It's about a quarter till 10, did you see Sasha come through the gates yet?"
"No. Thats weird, she is always here a little early, she loves-" Kaysie stopped, as her eyes widened. "Carl!" I looked over at the gate to see Daryl carrying a blood covered Sasha up to the gate. Her eyes were opened, but she didn't look like she knew what was going on. There was a herd of about 20 walkers following close behind them. Kaysie and I started to shoot, aiming for the head. I didn't have a suppressor on my rifle, and the shots stung my ears. I saw my dad run up to the gate, shooting walkers while he did so. He unlocked the gate and pushed it open just enough for Daryl and Sasha to get through. We continued to shoot until the walkers stopped coming. Kaysie was covered in sweat, her white t-shirt clinging to her, and you could make out the lines that formed abs on her toned stomach. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful she was in this time of chaos.
"We got to go see what is going on!" Kaysie yelled. I blinked back to reality and set down the rifle.
She grabbed my arm and we bolted down the stairs and into the empty street leading to the gate.

So that's it for this chapter, I think I will post every 4 to 5 days. Please comment and whatever on this fic ;)
