CHAPTER ONE: A CRACK IN TIME
It is roughly four minutes before seven o’clock; before the university bell rings to signal the start of a whole new school day. For a senior student like Peach, the day does not differ from what it was yesterday. It is the same banana for her according to her Literature teacher.
Peach is not as popular as other girls in class, nor she is a wallflower. She’s just a typical senior brunette gal with an ‘emo’ bangs that doesn’t even reflect her personality, at least, according to her. She is being referred more often as the ‘anti-social’ bird of the class because of her silent persona. When it comes to academic standings, she topples the honorary chart alongside with Brittany, her blonde nemesis.
“I’m bored,” Peach murmured while she was walking along the university square.
“Peach!” shouted Jennifer who was standing at the Principal’s Office.
Peach just gave a sleepy stare.
“What time have you been sleeping lately?” asked Jennifer, “you look like a zombie.”
“Around eleven, I think?”
Before Jennifer even said a thing, Geronimo and Rachel came.
“I thought I just saw you walking at the square! How come…” Geronimo said.
“Pardon my brother, he’s still drunk and high at the same time,” said Rachel.
“But I just saw her! How did she do that? Dis…”
“Shut up, Gino!” Rachel exclaimed, “let me take you to your class.”
“I think that’s a pretty good idea,” Jennifer added, “Peach, could you help me bring these textbooks to the freshmen wing?”
Peach grabbed some textbooks and they proceeded to the freshmen wing. Jennifer is the high school’s student council president. According to her, she is a half-British, half-American, that’s why she often play with her accent. Jennifer is also the high school student council president. And it is her duty everyday to make sure that everything is going fine.
The first period bell already rang and everyone rushed to their respective classes. Peach and Jennifer who was then in the freshmen wing, ran to their Physics class in split-second.
“We’re dead,” said Jennifer, “that Physics professor hates latecomers.”
“There’s still time,” Peach said in a calm tone, “let’s the take the other way to the senior wing.”
“No, that is a very long hallway, unless we know how to run fast,”
“At least there are no students around that hallway,”
Peach and Jennifer took the Euler Hall in desperation of beating the fifteen-second grace period. The Euler Hall is a kilometer long hallway that extends from the freshmen wing to the senior wing of the high school, passing through eighty classrooms, eight sets of restrooms, and four facility rooms. It is almost impossible to dash it end-to-end in less than ten seconds. It is far by the most silent hallway in the entire Elleridge University because its gates are always closed and for some unknown reason, students are avoiding the Euler Hall because of its creepy atmosphere.
“Do you think we’ll get there in time?!” Jennifer asked in panic.
“Trust me,” said Peach, “we’ll get there – in time.”
The only sound that can be heard in the hall were their footsteps that weren’t even running. They’re just walking fast. It is obvious for some reason that Jennifer is being creeped out.
“Stop looking at your watch!” shouted Peach, “keep calm.”
Moments later, they arrived at their Physics class. It is not as they expected. To their surprise, only two seconds passed since the grace period started. Jennifer looked at Peach with a how-did-that-happen look, but Peach just threw a calm stare and said “I told you, just trust me.”
All throughout their Physics class, Geronimo, Rachel’s brother, just stared at Peach. Peach didn’t care at first, but after the schoolday ended, she finally confronted him.
“What is your damn problem?!” asked Peach.
“What?” said Geronimo, “I’m just looking at you,”
“Well, that’s the problem! I get bothered everytime you look at me!”
“I just don’t know why. But what you did earlier, it is something,”
“…”
“I swear I’m not that drunk when I saw that, it is like you dis…”
“Shhh!” exclaimed Peach, as she covers Gino’s mouth, “you didn’t see anything, okay? Please? Tell me, you didn’t see anything!”
“Okay… Okay. I didn’t see anything,”
As soon as the last student went out of the room, Geronimo grabbed Peach’s iPod from her desk and threw it in mid-air.
“Nooooo!” Peach exclaimed.
Much to Geronimo’s surprise, the iPod became suspended in mid-air. He looked at his watch and the time stopped at exactly 04:31:28.
“How come you’re still moving?!” asked Peach, “you’re supposed to be frozen like anyone else unless I told you so!”
“That’s the magic, Peach,” said Geronimo, “you’re not the only one who possess this kind of ability.”
He raised his hand and telepathically moved the floating iPod to the desk. Geronimo snapped his finger and the clocks began ticking again.
“I know that you stopped time earlier,” said Geronimo, “you cannot simply cross the Euler’s Hall that fast.”
“Fine,” said Peach, “I know how to stop time!”
Peach packed her things up and rushed out of the room in disappointment.
Geronimo on the other hand, picked his phone and dialed someone.
“Hello?”
“Yes this is Geronimo. I think I found one of them.”
