THE MORNING LIGHT STREAMED WEEKLY THROUGH my dorm room window, softened by the murky waters of the black lake. I grumbled, pulling myself up and out of my bed.

The previous night awake searching endlessly for any sort of answers for that stupid cure was only now catching up to me.

I pulled myself robes off the back of my chair and stumbled groggily towards the bathroom that was tucked in the corner of the dorm. The cold stone floor bit at my feet, pulling me awake.

As i wondered into the bathroom, my eyes glanced to the mirror, i caught a glimpse of myself in it—Dark circles under my eyes, hair tangled and unkempt.

I turned away from that mirror rather quickly, not bearing to face that version of myself who was failing to save her brother.

The shower hissed to life, Muffled by the thick black stone walls. I stepped in, letting the hot steamy water wash over me, loosening the stiffness in my shoulders.

My mind wondered back to those books that id poured over last night, their spines cracked and pages brittle.

Every one of them promised answers, but none delivered anything useful. Each new theory felt like a dead end, leading me in circles. Lance's curse—My fault. my mind lectured—Was unlike anything i'd read about before.

I scrubbed my face with both hands, trying to shove the thought away. I couldn't afford to spiral. Not now.

By the time i'd emerged from the bathroom, the dorm was empty, all the girls had left—gone to their classes, or left to breakfast.

I pulled on my robes hastily, braiding my hair in the usual ways i did it.

I glanced once at my desk, where that single candle had burned out hours ago, the wax melted into a misshapen puddle. Beside it was a crumpled note i'd written to myself before passing out.

"Don't give up."

With a soft sigh i grabbed it and shoved it into my
bag and headed out the door. The many books in my bag made it harder to carry.

The moment i remembered what class i had, i knew that it was going to be an insufferable morning. Potions.

But skipping wasn't an option.

The halls were crowded by the time i got to the potions class room, students lingering in their small groups.

I entered the classroom walking towards my seat.

"Goodmorning students!" Professor Slughorn greeted, settling down in the front of the classroom. "Today we will be brewing up a very powerful love potion, most known as Amortentia!"
