Ruhaan's POV
The tension at home had been building for days. After Ariyana's confrontation with Mia, I knew it was only a matter of time before Mia would try to get under my skin. But today, I wasn't going to let her manipulate me any longer.
I could feel her eyes on me as I walked into the living room, where she was lounging on the couch, pretending to read some magazine. I wasn't fooled. She was planning something, and it was time to put an end to it.
"Mia," I said, my voice calm but edged with warning, "we need to talk."
She didn't look up, but I could see the corners of her mouth twitching into a smirk. "About what, Ruhaan? About your latest obsession? Or are you finally realizing what I've been saying all along?"
I clenched my jaw. "You've been saying a lot of things. None of them true."
Mia's eyes flicked up to meet mine, the coldness in them unmistakable. "You think she's the one for you, don't you? That girl, Ariyana... She's not your world, Ruhaan. You'll regret it."
I shook my head, taking a step closer. "You don't get to decide who's right for me, Mia. Not anymore."
She laughed, a hollow sound that made my skin crawl. "Oh, really? You think you're some kind of hero, saving the damsel in distress? She's broken, Ruhaan. She'll drag you down with her."
I felt the heat of anger rising in me, but I kept my cool. "Don't talk about her like that."
Mia's gaze hardened, her voice dropping to a low, venomous tone. "You don't understand her. You don't understand how much damage she's already done to herself. How much damage she'll do to you."
I didn't know how much longer I could hold myself back from saying something I'd regret, but I pushed forward. "She's stronger than you think. And if you ever talk about her like that again, I'll make sure you regret it."
Mia leaned back on the couch, crossing her arms. "You think you can protect her? From me? From your own family? You don't know the first thing about what's best for her."
"You're wrong," I said, my voice firm. "I know exactly what's best for her. And if you think you can tear us apart, you're in for a rude awakening."
She narrowed her eyes, her smirk fading slightly as if she finally realized how serious I was. "You'll regret this, Ruhaan. You and your precious little Ariyana. Just wait."
I didn't need to hear another word. Turning on my heel, I walked out, feeling a surge of determination settle over me. Mia wouldn't tear us apart. Not now, not ever.
Ariyana's POV
The day had gone by in a blur of stress and worry. Ever since my conversation with Mia, things had felt strained—not just with her, but with the entire atmosphere at home. I knew Ruhaan had confronted her, and part of me wanted to thank him for standing up to her, but the other part was scared of what might happen next.
I sat in my room, trying to focus on my studies, when my phone buzzed. It was a message from Ruhaan.
Ruhaan: "Meet me at the park in 15 minutes. I need to talk to you."
I quickly typed back, my heart racing. "What happened? Everything okay?"
Ruhaan: "Yeah. Just meet me, please. It's important."
I couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to escalate. Mia wasn't going to let go that easily, and I feared what she might do next. But I also trusted Ruhaan more than anyone, and I knew he'd do whatever it took to protect us.
I grabbed my jacket and rushed out of the house, my heart pounding. The park was only a few minutes away, but every second felt like an eternity.
Ruhaan's POV
I was standing by the fountain when Ariyana arrived, her face a mixture of concern and curiosity. I could tell she was anxious, but I needed to tell her what had happened with Mia.
As she approached, I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm in my chest. This wasn't just about me anymore; this was about us. And I wasn't going to let Mia destroy what we had.
"Ari," I said softly, my voice betraying the frustration I felt. "I had it out with Mia."
Her eyes widened, and she stopped a few steps away from me. "What happened?"
I ran a hand through my hair, my jaw tightening. "She doesn't get it. She doesn't get us. She tried to tell me that you're... broken. That you'll drag me down with you."
Ariyana's eyes filled with pain, and she took a step toward me. "Ruhaan, I—"
I cut her off, shaking my head. "No. Don't listen to her. You're not broken, Ari. And I'm not going anywhere. I won't let her or anyone else tear us apart."
Ariyana's face softened, and she reached out, her fingers brushing mine. "But what if you're wrong? What if this all falls apart? What if it's too much?"
I pulled her into my arms, holding her tightly. "It won't. I won't let it fall apart. And even if it does, I'll be there. Always."
I could feel the warmth of her body against mine, the steady beat of her heart matching mine. It was in this moment, wrapped in her embrace, that I knew—no matter what came our way, we'd face it together. I kissed her forehead, my lips lingering there for a moment.
"I love you, Ariyana," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.
She pulled back slightly, her eyes locking onto mine. "I love you too, Ruhaan. And I'm not going anywhere either."
As we stood in the park, the night air cool and comforting around us, I knew that no matter how hard Mia tried or how many obstacles we faced, nothing could tear us apart. We were stronger than that. Together, we would face whatever came next—head-on and hand in hand.
And that was all I needed to know.
