A Week Away

"Freya Sky!" My mother yelled from downstairs.

"I'm coming!" I yelled back as I exited my room and ran down the stairs. "Hey mommy" I smiled as I entered the kitchen and sat in front of the plate food on the counter.

"Schools a week away" she hummed.

"Yes it is and I wanted to talk about something" I basically whispered.

"What's up?" She asked knowing I'd tell her.

"I don't want to look like the nerd anymore, I want to look like I feel I should look like and dress what I want, I want to be me this year, not the girl who dresses in too big clothes and wears glasses and hides anymore" I rushed.

"Well it's still a week away we can clean out your closet since that will be easy and fill up the walk in closet you never use with brand new clothes" she said excitedly.

I'm guessing she saw the look of panic on my face since she started talking again. "And this could be your birthday gift since you haven't let us get you one since you were 10, no matter how hard we tried you always said no" she laughed at the end and I just nodded and hugged her.

"When can we go?" I asked knowing she was busy.

"We can go today, and they don't have brown contacts anymore, they've sold out. So instead pretending to have brown eyes you'll have to show your natural purple eyes and no more fake glasses." She smiled as she went upstairs to get ready.

Now don't judge me I was a smart kid. Knowing that there were people who didn't have what I have it upset me and I didn't want gifts, at all. Just the thought of getting a gift upset me. I never wanted to be different and my eyes made me different so I'd cover them and wear fake glasses because I liked them.

We put my clothes into a couple bags and dropped them off at a donation centre. Both of my parents were lawyers. They were almost never home except for the summer. They spent more time at home during the summer. We were pretty wealthy but that's also because we were always a "rich" family.

Family that never showed up for Christmas or Easter or any event would send us gifts. I never wanted them but since they didn't know me well they would just send me a card with a cheques of $500 to $5000.

A lot of them think they can buy me but they can't. I always gave my mom the cheques. She would go to the bank for me and put everything in my saving except for $500. That way I could spend money when I felt like it.

It didn't take my mom long to have me trying things on in every store we entered. She basically lived in the mall and everyone knew who she was so we were treated as if we were royalty.

By the time I knew it we had around 50 bags and that was just half the mall. Just this half took us 2 hours and I can say my feet are killing me.

"Mom can we put these bags in the car and then eat lunch" I groaned.

"Fine" she muttered as she headed to the car.

Once everything was in the car I was about to get in but she locked it and made her way back inside. I followed her inside and to the cafeteria. We were parked in valet so she knew that if something was missing she would be able to hold a good battle when she took it to court.

For lunch we decided to eat Manchu Wok. Who doesn't love Chinese food? Right? Mom was looking a bit distracted and being me I was worried.

"Mom? Are you okay?" I asked as I grabbed her hand and squeezed.

She squeezed back "I'm fine I was thinking, you need a new phone, your contracts done and you don't even have a computer so we have to go to apple" she smiled widely.

I should have known. She makes certain faces for things even shopping. After lunch we shopped for another 3 hours and I can say we spent most of that time in apple and shoe stores.

When we got home my dad had to help us unload. He even laughed at us because we managed to fill up the back seats and the trunk. I even had some bags at my feet.

"How was your day?" My dad asked clearly amused.

"Well mommy amused the mall, and my feet but most of all it was fun. It makes me realize how much I hate it when you're not here" I said as he pulled me into a hug.

"Well on a plus as your mom knows since I've call her but I got a raise, so my day is just getting better since I get to see you, have you done any actual back to school shopping?" He asked being concerned for my grades.

"Yes I did while mom decided to tell me to go by myself while she took a business call" I laughed. As I grabbed the last of the bags to bring inside. When I noticed it was gone.

"Where's my car?" I basically screamed.

"Sweetheart it's at the mechanics when I came outside the oil was leaking so I sent it in, I'm waiting for them to call me back" he said as he urged me inside.

That was the car I bought all by myself from my job. I got it 2 years ago it was basically my baby.

When I got to my room mom was putting everything away for me already. I had already set up the phone and computer by the time she did my closet. She didn't let me help. She said I would just mess things up.

As I was thinking I cried. Why did she have to die. My parents pretend that it never happened. They pretend that she doesn't exist but she does. My twin sister died. The same day Devin Irwin broke my heart and killed me.
It was his fault.

By the time I realized it I was in bed barely keeping my eyes open.
